I'll have to read your book then. I found your lt. Nikolai Gorushin in a soviet processing file. It seems by the FpN. that he lied about service in anything but the recovery and replacement battalion of the 3rd Ukrainain Stamm regiment and he demoted himself i think in hopes of lesser sentence or perhaps escaping death.

You may be interested to know that the battle orders for the defence of WN 93 survive in a translated from in SHAEF Intelligence Notes No.17, 6 July 1944 (UKNA WO 219/5228). There is a nicely-drawn map of the position, and written text. Key points:

Task of the defence position: "To block the Isigny Canal and to protect the boom [across the canal] in conjunction with WN 92 and 2nd Troops of 832nd [CD Arty - sic] Bn, Static Troop 'Brasilia, and 315th and 316th Static Troops."

Comms existed to WN 97 and WN 92.

Equipment/positions:

1 Section shelter; 1 OP; 2 Tobruks for MGs; 1 Tobruk for mortar; 1 pillbox for MG; 1 AT gun emplacement; 6 ammunition shelters; 1 rations store; 1 kitchen; 1 well.

Personnel:

1 officer, 2 NCOs, 21 ORs.

Weapons:

23 rifles and 1 Russian rifle; 2 Russian 'Tommy Guns'; 5 x MGs; 1 x 8.1cm mortar; 1 x 4.7cm French AT gun; 2 pistols

Ammo:

2096 rds pistol ammo; 52,728 SAA; 265 mortar rounds; 288 AT rounds; 288 hand grenades

Rations:

10 days of supplies for 25 men, last check carried out on 25 March 1944 (order is undated).

Miscellaneous equipment:

1 searchlight; 2 Verey pistols; 1 alarm signal; anti-gas equipment; line communications; medical equipment.

"Defence during normal state of readiness":

Sentries:

By day: One at the AA MG post, acting also as guard for the defence post.
By night: Double sentry and one roving sentry. In the case of increased vigilance and states of alert 1 and 2, see below.

Patrol areas: As far as the limit of patrols from WN 92 in the period 2 hours before high tide and two hours after high tide.

Defence during alert:

Stand-to: By day = One AA post, continuous watch for se and air landings, all weapons loaded. Preparation for all measures for state of alert 1. Building of defence works and training in area of WN to continue normally, otherwise normal daily routine. By night = Double sentry and one roving sentry. The rest of the personnel may take off their boots. Weapons must be ready for use. Otherwise, normal routine.

State of Alert 1: By day = Two AA posts. Complete occupation of the defence position. All weapons in position and loaded. Signal lines to the neighbouring defence post and to artillery HQ to be tested every 30 minutes. By night = Double sentry and one roving sentry. Otherwise as by day.

State of Alert 2: By day and night = All personnel at action stations. Otherwise as for State of alert 1. Elements C [presumably across roads running through the position] will only be put in position on special orders.

As noted, the order is undated, although it is clearly after 25 March 1944 and it is clear from the weapons that the garrison is predominantly Osttruppen, although one or more of the officers and NCOs might have been German.

Apologies if this information is something you know already, but I don't think I picked it up anywhere else.

Hello Simon,
I am always pleasantly surprised by your findings. No, I didn't have all of that information. Although dated after March 25, 1944, the interesting thing is that the appellations of Stellung.Batteries (315,316) or Gerat.Batterie (Brasilia) were modified as of December 15, 1943 with the reorganization of Art.Rgt.716 then quickly 1716. Thank you for this things, I will keep it.

2nd Troops of 832nd [CD Arty - sic] Bn = 2./832 that had become 2./1260, better known as Battery Pointe du Hoc.

Great we can see the bridge really well, I have to get this ncap photo. The Isigny fishermen who went out to sea said that they were checked at this level and spoke of a "drawbridge" in the bridge. The bigot map also alludes to a device in the bridge. I can't attach an image here I'll do it later
