BA-MA in Freiburg

#1

Post by Peter89 » 08 Jun 2022, 18:01

Hello guys,

Is anyone of you in Freiburg physically? I would like to visit the archives in 2 weeks and I preferred to know how easy it is to access the institution these days (especially since covid).

Any answers are greatly appreciated!

You must write them a letter(E-mail) and agree on the date of the visit

You can go here:

June is already fully booked though.

Thanks for the replies. The online appointment system doesn't work in this instance and according to the automatic mail reply they don't reply to emails in months :D

Do you guys happen to be in Freiburg? When was the last time you could enter?

The website has worked for me twice so far, but there need to be days available. (or do you need stuff you cannot book online?)

If there are days available they are clearly visible and you can click on them. Check July for instance. The 4th and 8th are still available at this time.

Thank you for your answer!

I just realized that I had some problems with my browser, but now it works fine.

Well, now comes the real punch. Is there any way to access the documents outside of these days? Because going through the calendar there are no more than 10 days left for this year, which is quite a few, even though I know exactly the Archivaliensignatur for the documents I want to take a look at.

No, but people do cancel reservations quite a lot. As an example, 15 June is available again now.
The real problem is planning ahead less than 6 months in advance. I do think there has been a covid backlog of people wanting to visit, so next year might be better.

Well in any case, thank you very much. I simply assumed the online booking doesn't work (it says it doesn't work for a whole bunch of eras/fields, so I assumed it is a general case now); if it weren't you, I wouldn't bother to update my browser.

I booked 3 loosely connected days in October now, however, I still refuse to accept that a system like this can work in reality. Especially at one of the most important archives concerning WW2. I will show up and ask around in person, because with this kind of online cancellation policy I wouldn't be surprised if they'd retain a few work stations for those who are actually on the spot.

Simply call them. They understand english.
They have plenty of time, plenty of space. Due to all the cancellations and No-Show's it has happened that they did not have any visitors at all.
Call them. Ask if they have space.
That's all.

I sent an email about a month back to book three days in early September. No problem. Had an answer back in 24 hours.

Hello,
I'm ordering a copy job.
1 hour of work costs 35 euros.

What do you mean by ordering a copy job?

Do you offer 35 euros per hour of work or do you offer the work and ask 35 euros per hour for it?

If the former, please do write me a message and we can discuss the details. If the latter, we could meet for a beer sometime this week :)

Smetanin albert lives pretty far from Freiburg. He just said he ordered copies through someone visiting BA-MA, and it costs €35/h. He will certainly give us feedback how many pages that eventually meant.

Sure, why not? If anyone of you need a document from the BA-MA in Freiburg, please do send a private message and I'll do it.
