Thoughts on this 卐 flag?

The dimensions are approximately 170 cm × 112 cm. The shorter side will stretch a few centimeters when pulled. The flag is double-sided. Took a few loose fibers from the seam and the red area and did the burn test. No melting. There are no markings.

Authentic or not, and more importantly, why?

Hi collector_FI,

the "Karabinerhaken/Attachment" and the stitching as well, speaks for an original from that time.
(The so-called "Patina" leaves no doubt...)

What can you report from Finland, from which source does this flag come from, please tell us more...

An assessment would be difficult without the historical background of this flag.

The seller is reputable, but I did not receive any information in the way of provenance or a story pertaining to this particular flag. It is always nice to hear such stories, but I think that an item should be able to stand on its own, so to speak. The only thing I know is that it came to me from America. How it ended up there, that I do not know.

An American soldier's spoils of war, the well-known story, that's nothing new so far...
Do not straighten, do not iron, keep away from daylight, best wishes for your find...

best wishes for your find
Danke, but is something truly a find when you bought it online? 😛 Exciting as it may be, I've gotten the greatest thrills from e.g. finding militaria in the attic of an abandoned house.

collector_FI,

what I see from american dealers what is offered is between 300,- and 1200,- american dollars for such a flag,
but I wouldn't trust these dealers for various reasons.

I bought a DAF "Pultbehang" ("Podium Banner"), for just 150,- German Marks in the 1980s on a german flea market, a very unique piece.
In later years, the price for the same banner "exploded" to more than 2500,- american dollars in the USA.

If original, these artifacts were often overrated in the US decades ago,
but that is in the nature of things, America is not Germany, and vice versa.

I won't post these links here, I personally don't like these people, their reputation is more than questionable...

Are there any stamps on the flag, even the smallest hint would be interesting.. ?

I think today, the prices at that time were simply increased tenfold for maximum profit.
When the market offered something like that, the traders made a lot of money, but that was never the true value of these artifacts.

Such a thing is still possible, even after the long time.
But the owners are keeping a low profile, for understandable reasons.

Sometimes you get books, documents, but very rarely, uniforms and flags are secretly disposed of.
You won't find anything without a personal connection to these families, everything has been and will be disposed of.
People don't want anything to do with any of this. (2022)

No markings whatsoever, apart from the 卐 of course. 😁

It's a bit different over here, as our President Mannerheim was friends with Hitler. Well, sort of. 😀 And we also kind of were on the Axis side, so many people here still respect Hitler.

Hi Mark,

Flags and uniforms were already hard to come by in the 1970s, especially from private sources.
If I could perhaps buy five flags privately, that was a lot.
And these flags were in many households, in all sizes...

As a young collector, you only got hold of these things through private connections with these families, if at all.
Most artefacts were destroyed right after 1945, who kept a swastika flag anywhere in the house back then, almost nobody.

This also applies to old uniforms that ended up in the boiler or that were burned in a garden.
From time to time a piece is offered, or you finally want to get rid of it, from the estate of your grandparents and great-grandparents,
then comes the hour of the collector.

Books, magazines and other documents can sometimes be found in a cardboard box or on a garden wall.
Always with the note: "For free!"

Hans
P.S. Why you have to turn this into a "political" topic again, hard to understand.
Maybe you shouldn't immediately put every word on a gold scale, especially not from Finland.

Was it attached to a flagpole?
There are casings/rings that indicate a specific date, the flags and standards are extremely rare and are still in private hands today, something like that is not traded.

Some collectors also show these details on the internet, it's not my job to introduce you to all that, sorry.

This scene is questionable, not my case, arrived?

So... The consensus is that the flag is legit?
