AH preferred a longer peak on his cap, it helped shade his eyes.
Holters of Berlin produced all his caps.
Linge recalls that he and Eva B. Once decided to remove the cap spring to give a more jaunty look.
AH on finding this was furious, saying it was his decision how it looked.
(EB complained to him it looked like a postman's cap)
Never the less he must have removed it from one of his caps later. as can be seen at Wolfschanze and the Berghof in 44 the cap forming ring is no longer in place,
Otto Günsche, not Linge was given the task to have his service cap repaired after the Juli bomb plot. The blast had loosened the peak when it was left on the small table within the doomed
Speerbarrake.
Pictures of AH after the explosion greeting Mussolini see him wearing what was probably a 'second' cap. ...very stiff and quite new looking.
Indeed his first utterances were that the explosion had ruined a brand new pair of trousers....
Below is now in private hands in Germay. It was owned by Angolia.

His books are the basis for many libraries...in case Hans is not aware
Angolia and Schlicht wrote the uniforms and traditions books.

Field grey has different hues.

Here is a picture of some of the many different shades of feldgrau.
http://www.dererstezug.com/germanwoolfabric.htm

There are many things that can affect the color of pictures.
Age, how a picture/negative/film is stored, quality of the film/age and print paper, chemicals used/how many times the chemicals are used, skill of the person doing the work/ lighting when the picture was taken.
And then you have a scanner of unknown quality/calibration upload it.
Then it is viewed on a monitor of unknown quality/calibration.
A lot of things can go wrong.

It is too bad the Platerhof/Hotel General Walker was torn down. I stayed there and Hotel zum Türken several times.
I found the metal valve body of a German gas mask in part of the bunker system. Close to where AH house was, I found the concrete floor of a building that had glass from wine bottles that had melted.
The bomb craters from the bombing attack in 1945 were extremely large and deep.
It was fortunate they missed the Platerhof and zum Türken.

Article in today's Berchtesgadener Anzeiger. Truck went off bridge at the Ache. Is this the old guard shack location for the road to Obersalzberg?

Yes, that’s the location. You can see part of the guard house wall in the background of the photo.
In a later update a new photo shows the entire building in the background.
Thanks for posting this link, Duane.

In reference to the Fuhrer peaked cap that was worn many times on the Obersalzberg, this peaked cap was only worn from 1938 onwards when he became head of the armed forces hence the wreath and cockade and the white piping for infantry. Any of Hitlers peaked caps that exist now must be questioned if they are in fact real unless if from the Berlin bunker because Julius Schaub was instructed to destroy all of his personal effects in April 1945. Hitler also wore a summer version of the 1938 peak cap, another ironic thing is that all of the tunics found in the Berlin bunker by the Russians were tunics that Hitler had not really worn much since 1938 so why were there not any 1938 tunics found in the bunker. ?

Hitler’s Watch?

#6638

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news ... to-auction

This whole thing sounds like BS to me. Just take a close look at the swastika - not symmetrical and poorly executed.

Did Hitler even wear or carry a watch? I don’t know. And where did this item come from inside the Berghof, which was almost entirely a burned out shell when captured?

I don’t know where the auctioneers got that fantasy story about the French troops “storming the Berghof” before the US 3rd Armored Division (wrong - the US 3rd Armd Div was in Sangerhausen, over 600km north of Berchtesgaden - they should have said the US 3rd Infantry Division). In actuality it was the US 3rd Infantry Division that arrived in Berchtesgaden and on the Obersalzberg first, on the afternoon and evening of 4 May 1945, and captured the Berghof. The French forces did not arrive until later that night.

To me, none of this produces any confidence that this item is genuine.

Re #6638

From that article:
The authenticator said it was likely given to Hitler on April 20, 1933, when, on his 44th birthday, he was named with former Chancellor Paul von Hindenburg an honorary citizen of Bavaria.
Is the above correct? I thought honorary citizen title was given by a city or municipality ?
Eg. AH got it in Berchtesgaden in March 1933, in Munich in 1939.

Close Greg
It was at, the not so distant, Tegernsee that Hitler and Von Hindenburg received their honorary citizenships.

A very prophetic picture on the wall.
It might have been of Berlin in 1945.

Very interesting contribution. Now my concern, it is the same work and in the review it is said that it was in the Berghof in fact, before 1945... but how did it come out? How did he save himself from the destruction of the Berghof?

Good question. According to the article it went to a museum in '46. It must have been collected by some official entity. Had it been a part of the looting by locals that we are so often reminded of, it wouldn't have seen the light of day for decades. Such is my impression anyway. Likely the Berghof had been cleared of such valuables long before by the SS as a safety/precautionary measure. Is this a monuments men story?
