Hi Kurmark,
you picture shows 7,5 cm F.K. 97 (f) Schneider on guncarriage mod.1916.
Picture take at Cap Gris Nez, where these guns were used for firing star shells.

regards,

Cnock

Were these guns even remotely useful as AA?

How could they be hooked up to a fire control system like the 88's? And without fuze setters they must've been all but useless against even low aircraft.

Hello

It depends of the distribution of the rare fire-control equipments, as for the coastal artillery.
The 7,5 cm Flak (f) from WW1 could be used with a mecanical french fire-control station -quite akin to Kommando-Hilfsfgerät 35.

When such equipment was not available -if german had seized and understood the operating methods of if, the guns were used in so-called free and and barrage fire. Please see random example.

The fire was not coordinated and was of course not very efficient.

As I understand it the state of the art 88's required thousands of rounds to take out bombers, and these guns were smaller, less accurate, and probably didn't have quite as good fuzes. I'd be surprised if they shot down even a single bomber or agile fighter. I guess it would've worked as a weapon to simply scare off pilots though.

Seems to me like these guns would've been best used as HEAT lobbing AT guns, you can squeeze 100mm+ pen out of a 75mm shell in WW2.

Lots of guns were converted to the 7.5 cm Pak 97/38.
