I was thinking it may be an old Opel Blitz with a coachbuilt body but I'm not confident about that. The grille and light assembly kind of resemble this one:

yes, it is an Opel Blitz bus! Excellent! You reached the right conclusion, that the grille and light assembly kind of resemble the old Opel Blitz bus, built from 1934 until 1936 with different coachbuilt bodies like on this pic.

I've studied the photograph carefully and the right hand drive suggests that it's a French manufacturer, the circular emblem on the grille suggests a Hotchkiss. Or am I (and not for the first time) barking up the wrong tree?
Regarding the Einheitsdiesel lorry a couple of rounds ago, I've tried to identify the manufacturer and I think that it's built by MAN. Is that correct?

Hi Rob,

an interesting question, but it is impossible to say which company produced this truck.
It´s true, that the diesel engine type HWA 526 D with a power of 80 HP was developed by MAN in cooperation with Henschel and the Humboldt-Deutzmotoren AG, but the Einheitsdiesel was made absolutely identical by all nine manufacturers: Borgward, Büssing-NAG, Daimler-Benz, FAUN, Henschel, Krupp, Magirus, MAN and VOMAG.

Actually you are barking up two trees, one right (French) and one wrong (Hotchkiss). But you are pretty close in that it is also a lesser known automaker.

My thanks for your reply to my question concerning the Einheitsdiesel. I spent time studying pictures of the various types and trying to identify detail differences between the manufacturers, not realising that the types were all identical.
I should have paid attention to the word 'standard'!
We say 'You're never too old to learn' and I've learnt something interesting and useful on my 70th birthday.

Hi Max,
Your car is a Licorne Type A163 of 1939. Previous Corre-Licorne models were built using Citroen body shell and engine, but with styling differences and, most interestingly, rear-wheel drive, unlike the "parent" Traction Avant.
