People won't join in when members aren't playing along with a what-if in the what-if section either. But here we are.

Until the end of the war, the 7.5-cm L/24 "Stummel" was considered completely adequate against soft targets. In this respect, there was no need at all to insert an intermediate calibre to the 10.5-cm howitzer here.
Moreover, the L/24 completely exhausted the available volume of the turret.

A hypothetical 8.8-cm howitzer would probably be in the size of an Australian QF 25-pdr short. Even if further scaled down to fit the existing turret: Ammunition supply would be extremely limited and reasonable handling to achieve a useful rate of fire would be out of the question.

Which brings us back to the 10.5-cm StuH, which was much more suitable in every respect.
Guns in 5.5-cm or 5.7-cm calibre seem more suitable if you want more bang for the buck.

The 5.5 one would be perfect.Other than that a small PAW gun would be great !

A lovely post explaining faults and with detail. Thank you!

The 25 pounder seemed to be quite the popular British weapon however, a German equal might have found use when the 75mm was just not powerful enough.
