thanks, the extremely long barrel suggested that it was being used for counter-battery fire.
Or harassing fire.

This is a rare case when I can confirm the correctness of your words. Here is shown the training of combat crews of the D-30 howitzer when firing direct fire at visible targets (shooting from an open position using an optical sight PR), whereas when shooting at invisible targets (shooting from closed positions), an artillery panorama is used.

D-30 howitzer | destroying fortifications with direct fire |large-caliber commotion]

There are a lot of interesting things about the D-30 howitzer, as well as about the shells and charges that this howitzer is able to release towards the enemy.
It's a great howitzer.
(The first couple of minutes is an advertisement for a computer game, do not pay attention).
I was over 25 years old when I fired a live shell from this howitzer for the first time (it was in the summer of 1980 on the Soviet-Iranian border on the territory of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic). I wanted to know how many shells I could fire from this howitzer alone, without the help of other members of the artillery crew. At the same time, I decided that I would shoot at the maximum pace. So, after the thirty-third shot, I collapsed and almost died.
Take into account that this happened in the Karakum desert (Black Sand) in summer at a temperature in the shade of 45 degrees above zero Celsius.

Here is an overview of the D-30 Howitzer and its copies in different countries of the world (in total in the armies of 70 countries)
