As a general rule, field command records (division, corps, army) for the German army do not exist for periods past July 1944 (they burned the records, or we bombed in April 1945). From memory, Aachen was the area controlled by the German LXXXI corps, which does have some material available for the time, but I think the US 78th div was a bit further south.

I have a few bits and pieces of records for the 78th division, so PM me if you want me to send them.

Actually all the T77-rolls have been published by the National Archives and are freely available:

The same goes for T-501 (Rear Areas), T-354 (Waffen-SS), T-84 (Various German records), T-175 (Schutzstaffel-SS and Police), T-311 (Army Groups)

For me the easiest way to find the rolls are to search for "Record Group 242 Serial xx" or "Record Group 242 Number xx" where xx is the Roll number. It takes a little while to get used to the naming conventions.

When you find the roll you are interested in you can browse the pages and even download the complete roll using the red pdf-icons under "Documents".

Yeah, you´re right, that is strange. It is possible to download one image at a time, but that is very time consuming.

Hi Guys,

I thought I could contribute by sharing my collection of rolls. They are mostly downloaded from http://wwiidigitalarchives.org/, John Calvin´s FTP Site and the rolls published by NARA. Most of the material covers 1943-45. The thing people might find useful is that I have converted all documents into PDF-files and named them (in German) to make navigating easier. Many have also been compressed to be more manageable.

Another thing some might find useful is that I have created links (.url-files) to the material found at https://wwii.germandocsinrussia.org/. Unfortunately the links cannot be opened directly from Google Drive but have to be downloaded first.

All T311 are on free download on the official US archive site.

The rolls you are looking for are probably there too, under T354.
