Artillerie abbreviations

Post by Nectar » 24 Dec 2022 08:23

Can someone help with these abbreviations all linked to Artillerie batteries? I've found some myself as they are logical or explained in the file itself, but some I cannot figure out. They all come from the same document which is a lists of locations with coordinates.

Wa.-Gesch.
Arb.-Gesch.
W.-St.
Wa.-St.
We.-St.
Sch.-St. (Schein-Stellung)
B.-St. (Beobachtungs-Stelle)
V.B. (Vorgeschovene Beobachter)
Ausw.V.B. (Ausweich Vorgeschovene Beobachter)
Ausw.B.-St. (Ausweich Beobachtungs Stelle)

Wa.-St. could be Wachtstellung.
A place were guns are stored before active duty.

Thanks! What is an Arbeits-Geschütze? I come to this list and found another abbrevation in the document. I don't think W.-St. and Wa.-St. are the same abbrevation.

Wa.-Gesch.
Arb.-Gesch. (Arbeits-Geschütz)
vorg.K.-St. (vorgeschovene ....)
W.-St.
Wa.-St. (Wacht-Stellung)
We.-St. (Wechsel-Stellung)
Sch.-St. (Schein-Stellung)
B.-St. (Beobachtungs-Stelle)
V.B. (Vorgeschovene Beobachter)
Ausw.V.B. (Ausweich Vorgeschovene Beobachter)
Ausw.B.-St. (Ausweich Beobachtungs Stelle)

What is an Arbeits-Geschütze?
An Arbeitsgeschütz is a gun positioned a short distance from the main battery site, that can be used for things like ranging shots without exposing the battery. It can also fire together with the rest of the battery, to protect it against enemy sound ranging.

Thanks again!

I found the reference to the Arbeitsgeschütz only for a heavy batterie (6 x 15 cm sFH 18), while the medium batteries (4 x 10,5 cm 18/40) didn't had any Arbeitsgeschütze.

I have some more - from a diary of a Abteilungs Kommandeur, so I am not 100% shure they are official but I would think so...

M-Stelle
U-Stelle

(could be that his handwriting had M-Stelle = U-Stelle and I have misread it but I looks like different Stellen)

thanks
Alexander

Hi

Does anybody know what "FA BI-Stelle" means ?
And the "v" in gemischte Flak-Abteilung 481 (v)

Thx in advance

FA should be Feldmaßige Ausbau and the BI is the Befehlsstelle of a Flakbatterie.
So a Befehlsstelle in a fieldorder emplacement.
I thought (v) meant verstärkt but I could be wrong, in 1944 many Flak-Abt. in the Netherlands were stationed near the vital retreat bridges, most of these had the (v) in the name.

Thx JKernwerk for your swift reply !
My question was in regard of Flakbatterie Cap Roux, not far from Mandelieu-La Napoule and was occupied by gemischte Flak-Abteilung 481 (v) and had some FA bunkers.
