http://thirdreichruins.com/reichsadler.htmThe Third Reich government adopted the eagle as a national symbol (Hoheitszeichen), in common with previous German governments and several other European countries. Originally, the design was to show the eagle's head facing to its right when used as a national symbol, and to its left when used as a Nazi Party symbol, but this convention was not always followed. The eagle's claws were to grasp a wreath of oak leaves surrounding a swastika.

The above still does not answer the question; why, and when the change was made.

Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
It appears that there were two very similar portals on Voss Str
No 4 Voss Str
The eagle looks to its left [our right]
No 6 Voss Str
The eagle looks to its right [our left]
This might also explain why there two different eagles.
They are looking towards each other

Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
I think you might have nailed it Max. I'm surprised that it isn't more widely known that there were two similar entrances, given all that's been discussed in the huge number of posts (2523) in this thread! How could we not know this? It's plain to see in some of the photographs and in the floor plan!
Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
I think the confusion emanates from the lifesize model with an "invented" eagle, i knew there were 2 entrances on voss strasse and assumed both eagles to be identical, it was the design of the eagles which differred in the images that got me
Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
The german article about the "Reichsadler" anwers ALL questions, please pay attention to the section "Reichsadler in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus"
Reichsadler: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichsadler
Unfortunately, I personally don't understand why one has to dwell on this at all, especially in this forum...

You also originally said
I took you to mean the difference in the direction of the eagle heads.Hi all just a quick question, why is the eagle iver the entrance in voss strasse different in the two images, was it changed?
The eagles at the two entrances are not identical; their heads point in different directions. Did you know that?
I see now that the differences you referred to were other than the heads.

Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
There was some discussion along these lines about 15 years ago, but it's a bit hard to follow due to so mant photo being no longer available.CraigM wrote: ↑25 Jan 2023, 14:09I think you might have nailed it Max. Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
The heads of the eagles above both entrances faced each other. If you were standing on the other side of Voss-Strasse and looking at the NRK, the one at the Wilhelmstrasse end faced left and the one at the Hermann-Goring-Strasse end faced right. As for full-scale modelling, Hitler/Speer followed the practice from time to time, notably with the Nuremberg Kongresshalle. Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
Here's another one, also from Geoff's site: they built a full-scale model of stadium seating for the Deutsche Stadion, 52 km east of Nuremberg. I've actually been there. It's fascinating. Not for the faint-hearted. Punch "Der Stadionberg bei Oberklausen" into Google Maps to find it. Check out satellite view too. Re: Reichskanzlei Thread
I have recently been gifted this original photo taken inside the New Reich Chancellery. I'm guessing it shows the west wall of the Great Reception Hall. Anyone disagree?
