Oberleutnant Herbert Horstmann - Ehrenblatt Pz.Rgt.29 - 3 kills?
Hello Antonio,

ah, that's stupid, "Tiger" tank ..., big mistake by the PK man :o

Well, at least also the allied troops tend to mix up Tiger tanks and Panzer IV lang with Schürzen

But I think you are right, this must be Oblt.d.R. Horstmann from 6./Pz.Rgt. 29. He went on to became a Hauptmann, the action for this Ehrenblattspange was on 28.10.1944 at Aspites.

Knight's Cross 18/12/1944

Thank you Antonio,

I would say it's 4 tank kills claimed: first he destroyed 3 M4, than his gun was heavily fired upon, all the crew had to hide in the shell-craters, than Uffz. Hein jumped to his gun again and single handedly destroyed another M4. Than his gun was knocked out, they withdrew to the "Lindenhof" etc. (where he destroyed another tank at close combat).

Thanks Oliver

I'm looking for information about Heinrich von Schaumberg.
Knight's Cross - Oberleutnant Chef, Panzerjäger-Kompanie 1131
German Cross in Gold - Wachtmeister 2. /Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 191
The only piece of news I've been able to find on the net is on a Russian site.
In one part of Stug.Abt.190's diary, it was said that he had destroyed 5 enemy tanks in one fight.
He surely he had many more.
If you know the number of tank kills, or the Knight's Cross action.

An interesting person (one of many) for sure, you are right Antonio, but I'm also searching for detailed information on him.

I'm pretty sure the Ritterkreuz action was on 28.1.1945, the day he died:
That day it's reported that in the 131. Inf.Div. sector a total of 47 soviet tanks was knocked out off Liebstadt.

Also, Fw. Gerhard Redick from Jgd.Pz.Kp. 1131 was recommended for the Mention in the Ehrenblatt for action the same day. So, pretty obvious, von Schaumberg and Redick had a share on this tank kills.

But, of course ..., there were other units involved in this too.

So, sadly it remains unclear what exactly these two men achived that day.

Ah, that's nice Antonio!

Well, and not that difficult, despite it's totally new to me:
Fw. Stanislaus Mack, 3./Pz.Rgt. 1 (1. Pz.Div.)

He got the Ehrenblattspange on 5.12.1944 for action on 9.10.1944 at Nagy Rabe.

The newspaper mentions deals with actions of 23. Pz.Div., 1. Pz.Div. and 13. Pz.Div., but Feldwebel Mack is the only "Feldwebel M." getting a higher award from those units for action in the fights around Debrecen, and it perfectly fits.

And, more so, this are 7 (seven) tank kills that day for Fw. Mack, not 5 tanks:
he already had claimed 5 tanks during the fights that day, than another 2 out of 3 tanks with his last two grenades.

Thanks Oliver, great.
Here is a well-known one: Feldwebel Josef Christ - 5/Pz.Rgt.35
He was awarded the Ehrenblattspange on 17/11/44 for the destruction of 7 T34s with his Panther on 17/9/44 .

Hello Antonio,

ah, yes, well known, but the II./Pz.Rgt. 35, including 5./Pz.Rgt. 35, was equipped with Panzer IV lang, not Panther tanks!

Action was on 19.9.1944 at Doblen, not 17.9.1944.

Josef Christ got the EK 1st class in November 1943 as an Unteroffizier, I don't know if he was a tank commander already at that time or a gunner, or a driver or ...

And the article also mentions the gunner, Ogfr. Rehard.
This is Alfred Rehard, he got the EK 1st class on 3.10.1944.

Hello
Oberleutnant Otto Stodieck - Pz.Rgt.1
With a few panzers he destroyed 35 tanks in 2 days.
I don't know his kill count, but I think it's high

Hello Antonio!

You are right, unfortunately no details given here, but I'm sure he had a share on his companies success!

He got the EK2 after the French campaign and the EK1 in August 1941, so a lot of experience, also ...

Kind regards

Hello Antonio,

this is really difficult ..., WORD!

You have SS-Pz.Abt. 11 in this area, also 5.(Pz)/Führer-Begleit-Bataillon, and the notorious Tigers of s.Pz.Abt. 502 also. And, well, II./Pz.Rgt. 29 from 12. Pz.Div. also in that general area.

I think the newspaper means "Bahndamm Narwa - Newel", would make more sense, despite Newel being more than 400 kilometres away from Narwa.

The 5.(Pz)/F.B.B. did secure the Bahndamm leading from Narwa railway station, I'm sure of that, but ...

Ah, maybe in this case I have no clue, damn!

Oliver

PS: This Panzerkommandant hat 2 T34 and one Slf. (probably SU-72) to his credit, than together with an other tank they destroyed 6 more soviet tanks and damaged 2 tanks.

Hello Antonio,

well ..., I can't confirm his existence, but as the other men on this site are correct so far I expect Fw. Hollmann also to be a "real person" :)

Source must be something like an Mitteilungsblatt from Pz.Brig. 106 or so, should be trustworthy, but it's difficult to find much information from the very last stages of WW2.
