Hello Fontessa

Do you have any unit listing under code numbers - JACAR lists as group assignments but I have no unit in those ranges.

13301 to 13307
13380 to 13391
13770 to 13381

Thank you

Hi Fontessa
What information have you on Officers who were wounded on the Aoba on the 12/10/1942 for example I have a listing which is dated 01/12/1941 of the Aoba officers and Admiral Goto staff assigned; Which has Warrant officer Izuma Iwao attached was he still aboard when she was damaged if so his fate? Cmdr Kijima Kikunori and Lcmdr Hashinaka Yoshimi survived and the other known staff killed included Admiral Goto Aritomo.
Kind Regards Ian

The 1st Picture shows Aoba's shot points. The shell to the bridge was unexploded, but it bounced around and killed many. CAPT HISAMUNE Yonejiro, who took over the command of the squadron from the seriously injured GOTO Aritomo (later died), ordered the fleet to turn around. On the way, CA Furutaka and DD Fubuki sank. The shell on the 3rd turret ignited the zero-type shells (anti-aircraft shells with timed fuze) on the bullet feed elevator. The turret commander 尾崎専造 OZAKI Senzo's emergent water injection prevented the bullet storage from exploding, but all members of the bullet storage died. The 2nd Figure shows Myoko’s turret and bullet storage which were basically the same as these of Aoba.
Aoba was repaired at Kure Naval Yard from the end of 1942 to the beginning of 1943. In this repair, 3rd turret was replaced with a triple - 25mm machine cannon, which was replaced with the original twin - 20cm gun turret after the 2nd repair at Kure Naval Yard at the end of 1943.
According to Senshi Sosho, 79 men were KIA.

Not any more - When I was stationed in Japan with the US Navy - I took Japanese courses - could read kanji at 2nd Grade level. That was in the 1970s and I have now lost most of that(still know some of the simple Kanji(up, down, in, out, middle etc). But to translate military terms i use THE MODERN READER'S JAPANESE - ENGLISH CHARACTER DICTIONARY by Nelson - it is a Radical based dictionary - My co-author was fluent in Japanese and did a lot of the translations. If I do not have a translation for a military term it takes me quite some time to work it out and if it is in the old style Japanese I am in trouble. I do have a Military terms dictionary Romanji - Kanji- English / English - Romanji - Kanji witch is not much help.
