Operation Downfall Invasion of Japan

Post by PassandReviewofWW2 » 02 Aug 2023 17:55

U S Planning went the Long way around, moving thru the Solomons and Philippines , using U S Troops to take back Islands that were British/Australian possessions not in the US Interest.
The Taking of these Islands, for strategic bomb runs, had little effect on Japans determination to keep fighting.
An invasion of Japan by way of Alaska in 1944 was never contemplated, for obvious political considerations

The US interest was to win the war, and you do that by depriving the Japanese of the resources needed to wage war. Of those resources none was more vital to the Japanese than oil. Take the Philippines and you cut the lifeline to that oil.
