Hi
Sorry I don't have a picture, but:
An interesting way to find out that you have been awarded an honour!
Batallion Kommander Oberstleutnant Dr Maus heard that he had been awarded the RK, on a radio news broadcast, towards the end of November 1941, just after an engagement at Istra, in the attack on Moscow.

v. Gaudecker was commander of a division!
I want to inform you that von Gaudecker wasfreiherr wrote:RK holder 2?
Kommandeur der "Infanterie-Division z.V." (= zur Vergeltung; "Reste der V-Waffen"), built by disbandment of the former "V. AK z.V. " (under SS-Obergruppenführer and General of the Waffen-SS Dr.-Ing. Hans Kammler)
please pay attention both "z. V.", not "z.b.V."
11.04.1945 with AOk Blumentritt
22.04.1945 with XXXI. PzK (Holste) with AOK 12 (Wenck)
01.05.1945 arbitrary capitulation with 29. US-Div.
Von Gaudecker has no soldiers at all, his men were specilists in "V-Waffen" and were not trained for in fighting.
Nevertheseless C-in-C Wenck never pardonned him.
Cheers
Oberstab

Hi Denis,
Without a doubt von Usedom. Thank you very much. As you already mentioned, we observe strange badge on the arm resembling a foreign volunteer armshield. Cursory check suggests only France and Wallonie go vertical. And von Usedom's seems more like "bi-couleur" than "tri-couleur". What is it?
Cheers

Hi Freiherr
I have seen the same photo from von Usedom but without this "white trace". Sorry but I don't remember where.
Anyway, this might be the result of a problem in the scanning process.
HAve a look on his peaked cap and you will see a kind of small button below the eagle. This might be a manual repair to keep the eagle or the oak leaf cluster.
Regards
