Hi,

Amazing pics (former topic) and discussion! My question: Do you know about SS-Oberführer László DEÁK (CO assistant Hunyadi SS Div, CO 61 SS Gren.Rgt.) as a participant in Div.Führ.Lehrgang 10/11.1944?
AG Payer's book contains a remark on it.

Many THX,

Janos

Question about the Divisionsführerlehrgang... Since the first one was held in January 1943, what did they do to prepare Regiment commanders to be division commanders prior to that? Did pre-war colonels already have training in that?

Hi Jeff,
leaders of platoons and companies, also commanders of battalions and regiments of the Infanterie were trained at the Infanterie-Schule in Döberitz.
Here a pic from the “17. Regiments-Führerlehrgang” in Döberitz 27.06. - 31.08.1944.
It shows the presentation of the Knight Cross to Major Friedrich Bader (received 12.08.1944) as cdr. Hochgebirgs-Jäger-Btl. 3.
The two other officers are unknown, the general should be the “Lehrgruppenkommandeur”. The cdr. of the Infanterie-Schule of that time was Generalleutnant Otto Maximilian Hitzfeld.
As an example of the Waffen-SS and standing for cdr. of “Panzertruppen”:
The two SS-Brigadeführer and Generalmajore der Waffen-SS Wilhelm Bittrich and Lothar Debes were commanded to a “Regimentsführerkurs” to the “Schule für Schnelle Truppen” in Wünsdorf (surely as teachers) 06.01. - 25.01.1943.
Cheers

Hi Oberstab,

Thanks for your response. I understand that there were Führerlehrgänge for all levels of command; Abt., Rgt., etc. I am speaking only about the Divisionsführerlehrgang. My question is how did they train new division leaders in 1941 and 1942, before the first Divisionsführerlehrgang in January 1943?

Best Regards.......Jeff
