Some time ago I saw " where eagles dare " and there was a german helicopter, I am wondering were there any helicopters during world war II ?

There was a german aircraft that was some sort of helicopter but the Allies also had their own helicopter used on vesels for reccon I belive.

The US Navy operated a version of the Sikorsky R-4 helicopter as the HNS.
