Flakpanzers
I've finished my data tables for the Möbelwagen, the Wirbelwind and the Flakpanzer 38 - you can find them here:
http://www.panzerworld.net/Mobelwagen.htm
http://www.panzerworld.net/Wirbelwind.htm
http://www.panzerworld.net/Flakpanzer38.htm
I hope to have the Ostwind and other vehicles up soon...

Good Work
You are doing some nice work there Ferdinand.
Keep at it, as I seem to be falling behind in my site.

Christian, is there anywhere that we can see these lists as I get a 404 when I click on the links.Christian Ankerstjerne wrote: ↑28 Jul 2002, 00:07I've finished my data tables for the Möbelwagen, the Wirbelwind and the Flakpanzer 38 - you can find them here:

Re: Flakpanzers
That link only seems to lead to the Kugelblitz, no other flakpanzer IVs.
And I question some of the stats in that article..e.g.
"The theoretical rate of fire of the MK 103 was 900 rounds per minute", really? I know of no other place saying that. The theoretical rate of the pair of MK103 in the KB might be a combined 900 rpm, but theres no physical way that a single gun firing that large a round can cycle at 900 rpm unless its a revolver canon or gattling. Its just beyond the physically possible in 1945.
None of Peggs books about the Hs129, the main user of the MK103, state a figure over 480 rpm.
Also the article states the KB had hydraulic traverse and laying. That was what the designers originally wanted, but couldn't build the necessary stuff to do it, so the KB was built with manual traverse, at some pathetic rate like 10degrees a second, which is practically useless for tracking fast low planes.
As built, the KB would have been rubbish at shooting down it's intended targets, Jabos.
Also the article compares the theoretical rpm of the MK103 with the practical rpm of the Ostwind flak 43 3.7cm, but that's not comparing like with like. The theoretical rpm of the flak 43 was 240, quite a bit more than its practical 150-180. And the flak 43 shell is twice the weight (660g) of the mk103 (330g), so having half the rpm is balanced by having twice the shell weight. And that twice as heavy shell carried more than twice the HE content.
Also, we now know that at least one KB saw action, as the remains of it were found by archaeologists. Its catalogued in the Nuts and Bolts issue 25 on Flakpanzers.
Just my 2 cents, but...Time to update that article Christian?

Re: Flakpanzers
A 30mm weapon firing 900 RPM is doable using WW2 Technology, IIRC there was experiments to get the Mk-108 to 850 RPM and it worked, for the longer Mk-103 cartridge it'd just mean the gun would be rather...Large. Additionally stuff like gast guns (technically 2 barrels in a single gun) can fire that fast on a low weight limit.bam wrote: ↑30 Jul 2021, 20:05And I question some of the stats in that article..e.g.

But yeah ultimately the 103 only fired 500 or so RPM.
