Rare captured Soviet-modified Pz III

Post by jmark » 18 May 2004 09:02

I recently came across this photo and thought it would be of interest to some members of this forum. I've never seen one like this before.

The story goes that this Panzer III was captured by the Soviets some time in 1943 and they modified it by adding a 76mm gun to a new fixed superstructure. In early 1944, however, this vehicle was recaptured by the Germans. In fact, it became part of Pz.Jg.Abt.128 and participated in operations near Krivoi-Rog.

Anyway, hope this is of interest.

Fine Pic.
It's name was Su76i the for foreign in rissian alphabet.
At the beguining it must be armed with a 122 mm,but only a few built(63)
with PZ III and Stug III captured chassis ,this due to technicals problem.
From March 1943 to November 1943 201 SU-76 product.
