The unknown Major posted by Freiherr on page 19 (see his thread as of 14/03/04) is Hermann Stiefvater.
I was too lazy to see if this soldier has already been identified among the remaining 50 pages so forgive me by advance for a possible repetition.

For some reason I seem to recall I had considered Otto Stams as well but since I don't have a another picture of him, I wouldn't know. The major you identified as Stiefvater was on PP20, not PP19. It takes a fast computer and cable to go through all this!

The eichenlaubträger on PP65 was Günther Hoffmannn-Schönborn.

Hello folks, I am new to this forum and hope some of you might be able to help me. I am doing research on a relative who apparently won the Ritterkreuz early in WWII. His name was Walter Meyer, according to family lore he won it during the Greek Campaign, possibly on Crete. He was serevely wounded and returned to his home in Freiburg to a hero's welcome. He recieved a parade, was awarded the Ritterkreuz by Hitler personally, was given a house and a prestigous position with the city. All of this was later stripped after the war. He lived out his life as a school teacher and tended his beloved rose garden till his death in the 1980's. I remember meeting him many times as a child and commenting on his withered leg, a remnant of his injuries. Unfortunately there are no surviving family records. To date the only information I have been able to find is that which is listed on the Feldgrau.com site as follows:

I am looking for specific accounts of what he did to win the award. Any pictures of him and his unit. Accounts of the ceremonies in Freiburg and of course anything related. Anything in German is fine as I read and write German well. He was my fathers cousin.
