Thanks, Daniel. He is not mentioned in either Fellgiebel or Scherzer as a RKT.

There was a Franz Gierster who kind of looked similar. Could you confirm?

No, those are not the same. Franz Giesler received the Knight's cross on the 29.04.1945 as a Hauptmann in I/FlaKRgt 120. The award has not been officially recognized.

Source : Biblio Verlag book dealing with RKT from the Flak
Alive : don't know and difficult to say as he is not acknowledged as a RKT (no info by the OdR, nothing from das-ritterkreuz.de)

This is Jochen Peiper with his Bataillon marching in Italy (Cuneo-area) in August 1943, not 12. SS, but "LSSAH"

L-t-r
Paul Guhl, later also RKT
Peiper RKT
Werner Wolff, RKT...you just can't see it in this clip.

Documentaries such as war time Wochenschau, from the little that I have tried, are completely unreliable as to accuracy of names and units.

Hi Dieter,

Solved the problem. It's Erich Klier, 56 JgRgt, 5 JgDiv....which of course Gittner was Kmdr. Scherzer has a truncated pic also, but not as nice.
