On reflection, I think 2. looks more like Hans-Gerrit v.Stockhausen.

Thanks for the IDs John.
Anybody else has any idea of who could be the General?

I think the colour photo is Willy Hilss.

Yes, the color pic has often been attributed as Hilss.

But I think this pic (from the 100 NCO series) has also been said to be Hilss. Cannot be -- Hilss's last rank was Uffz and the black and white I posted -- a more complete one at Kai Winkler's clearly shows the should strap of an ObFwb. So who could my guy be?

Cheers

Fangio:
The "another one" in your last thread is the later General der Infanterie Horst GROSSMANN.

Oberst Hans Georg Brandt. first one was from Biblio Verlag. Second one was from Scherzer. Not quite the same person, was it?

Seigfried Strelow...or Strehlow

Post by unitedcats » 03 May 2006 18:39

Yes, pic number two is Siegfried Strelow. Except that the name is spelled wrong and has been copied all over the english sites on the internet causing no end of confusion. It should be Strehlow, that's how it is spelled on the only German language site I could find. He commanded u-435 as well as serving on the Graf Spee. He was a relative, my grandfather talked about him during the war, my mother's maiden name is Strehlow. If anyone knows more about him I would love to hear it, few of our German relatives survived the war (Most of them lived in Prussia) and we are just now starting to reconstruct our family history.
