The Wehrpass gave information on a man's personal information and pre-military training.

When joining the Wehrmacht, the Wehrpass was exchanged for the Soldbuch. The Soldbuch recorded all the personal details of the recruit, where he was inducted into the armed forces, what formations he served in, where his pay details were kept, promotion, awards, etc.

The Wehrpass stayed with the military formations HQ, and was updated with certain training information, record of service, etc.

At the end of the soldiers career, the Soldbuch was returned to the military authority, and the Wehrpass was returned to the civilian.

To sum up, the Wehrpass was a civilian document, used to record paramilitary and military service that may be needed after leaving the Wehrmacht.

Does this make sense?

A related question...

Post by simondodkins » 11 Sep 2006 10:06

On a related question, Is it possible from a Wehrpass, to re-create a Soldbuch?

I have a copy of a soldiers Wehrpass, but as we reenact the unit he came from, we want to use the Wehrpass as the basis to re-creat soldbuchs for each of our unit members.

Can it be done?

Best regards,

Simon.
