Awesome photo. The slight smile on her face suggests that she thought something along the lines of "Fuck you, assholes. You kan kill me but I didn't go out without a fight."

found another. from a book with an unwieldy title of "the tiger project book 2: horst krönke schwere panzer (tiger) abteilung 505"
a great book if you're interested in panzers and panzer men and personal photos from the front. this is krönke's girlfriend Feli in 1944.

Hello,
Kentaurus you're right, she's definitely amused about the interrogation by the German authorities.
Kentaurus worte:
Awesome photo. The slight smile on her face suggests that she thought something along the lines of "Fuck you, assholes. You kan kill me but I didn't go out without a fight."
Bayla Gelblung was caught in October 1939 sniping at German troops in Warsaw. Note that the German officials are still wearing the shoulder support belt that was abandoned in late 1939.
Here's another foto of her.

I have seen a lot of those photos. It's usually the wife or girlfriend posing in her husband's uniform. I see them come up on eBay every now and again, being sold as "women in the military service" and such, as if the women were actually uniformed soldiers rather than wearing their husbands' or boyfriends' uniforms. Heh. I've even seen some of girls dressed in (male) Hitler Youth leader uniforms, posing for these souvenir photos.

BDM, I guess you bypassed the very first message on this thread...that's exactly what this thread is about--wives and girlfriends in their husband's and boyfiend's uniforms. Read, then write.

I guess I must've missed the post that said I couldn't add a comment to the thread. It's good we have you around to point that out and make the atmosphere here oh-so welcoming.
My point (if you'd actually read my post) was that when they are sold on eBay and other such sites, they are often described as if we were looking at a woman in the military, rather than a woman playing dress-up in her husband's / boyfriend's uniform.

"...and here we have a modern reenactment of the phenomena: alexandra maria lara playing traudl junge in "der untergang"
Forgive my ignorance, but what was that scene all about?

Carl, if memory serves (and it's been awhile since I've seen the movie), she is given the uniform to help her get out of Berlin during the last days. In the end she walks along with a unit of German soldiers who are surrendering to the Russians, and then is able to just walk past the Russian soldiers and get out of Berlin.

Interesting bend on the "Women in Men's Uniform" topic, Drew---and
very interesting photo!
Though, I think that instead of it being her brother's or boyfriend's uniform, she's wearing a man's overcoat (and cap?) that she picked up or was given, for warmth. This happened, in the late days of the war, from the photographic evidence. But I'd bet she's wearing a female uniform underneath!

I have seen that photo Drew posted in the Hitler Youth book. It's part of "Maria's Story." I don't have the book at hand, but if I remember correctly, she was part of the BDM and because at 15 she was too young to become a Helferin, she volunteered her services at a local Luftwaffe (?) office. During the last days of the war she joined the Volkssturm where she served as a medic but also received some instruction on firearms, which she never actually used in combat. She was captured while giving first aid to a male Volkssturm member. (Drew can correct me if I'm not remembering the story correctly.)
