Hi Alex,
I am not sure if the pic posted by John from Ebay was Albert Ernst.
There were a few pics of him in Franz Kurowski's Panzer Aces. While Kurowski is not exactly known for accuracy, the general awarding Ernst the RK, according to Kurowski, was Reinhardt. In the series of pics on sale on Ebay, the general awarding the RK was not Reinhardt. Furthermore, Ernst earned his RK on 22.01.44. There were many trees in the pic John posted.
Cheers

Here's a pic with Walter Stein (RK 28.11.43) in the middle, 485 Rgt/263. Div and Wilhlem Kohler (RK 10.12.42) on the right 195 Rgt/78. Sturm-Div. According to Stockert, Kohler lost his lower right leg, stayed in military hospital and studied history at the University of Tübingen until he took up a position with 9. Pz.Div. in mid-1944 and went on to win the EL. This looks like a picture during this period. Who's was the RKT on the left?
Cheers
