weeeeeelll not really - I was thinking of another photo, silly me. Werlin is a good answer, he was one of the directors of the Gezuvor firm, but he was not the chap who recieved the directive for Ley once Hitler had asked Ley to start work on bringing the project to life. Its possibly my out of the way oddball interests that are making this hard. I will post the answer later on tonight if no one gets it.

Ok I am going out and so I shall give the answer and as Mike was the nearest maybe he can give you all a question. I am not going to be online much as I am working tomorrow so I could not post or look for a question and hate to hold up the thread. ;)

It was Dr rer.pol. Bodo Lafferentz - SS-Obersturmbannfuhrer and appointed by Dr Robert Ley to head up and organize the company to bring the KdF Wagen dreams of the Fuhrer to reality. I shall find a photo of him when I have time ;)

Thanks, Matt, but I'll pass this to anyone else who'd like to take it.

For another threads featuring Lafferentz, including photos, see http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic. ... lafferentz .

and

http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/ ... Lafferentz

The latter includes the following biographical sketch by AHF member Koj (it does not indicate he held the rank of SS-Ostubaf.- though he may have/I don't have my 1.10.44 DAL with me, but indicates he was an NSKK-Staffelführer [= Sturmbannführer] and a 1944-promoted SS-Hauptsturmführer d. R. of the Waffen-SS).

Lafferentz, Dr. rer. pol. Bodo
NSKK-Staffelführer / Reichsamtsleiter der DAF / Amtsleiter der NSG. "Kraft durch Freude"

Notes:

Lafferentz was never NSKK-Staffelführer but SA-Standartenführer.
He joined the SS on 17.02.1939 as SS-Obersturmbannführer.
BTW: He was born in Kiel not München.

17.02.1939 Eintritt in die Allgemeine SS (Mitgliedsnr. 347.155),
01.02.1942 - 01.08.1944 ehrenamtlicher SS-Führer beim Stab des RuSHA unter gleichzeitiger Zuteilung zur Dienstleistung beim Haupt-Fürsorge- und Versorgungsamt-SS;
01.08.1944 - 00.05.1945 ehrenamtlicher SS-Führer beim Stab des SS-Abschnitts III (Berlin)

Karl Kreutz is a "young" division commander but born in 1909.
My mysterious commander was born in 1913 !
