Deck born in 1914 and held SS# 103215. In common with the rest of the German cadre of the Finnish Volunteer Battalion, he became part of the cadre of SS-FPGR 49 De Ruyter, taking command of the 6. Kompanie. At this post he won the DKiG on March 12, 1944. He then was presumably wounded, since he went on to serve with SS-PG AuE Batt. 11. Deck survived the war, dying on December 28, 1993.

Eugen Deck was much admired by the men of his various units, because he was a man of action who was always at the front of his men at the point of heaviest action. He also held at least two Tank Destruction Badges. The above information comes from John Moore's Führerliste and from various books in my collection.

And I thank Juha for the nice picture from Deck.

But can somebody tell me the full DoB from Deck and his birthplace???

Hi Fred, thanks also from me for the additional information. However, there must be an error with Deck's EK II. Either it was won on the 6th of October 1939, or on the 10th of June, 1940. However, the 10th of June 1939 is not possible.

Marc,

Of course, you are absolutely correct…my eyes saw 10.06.1940 by my fingers weren't cooperating.

Thanks,

-Fred
