Tosun,

Can this book be found in English?

My lists so far are around 2250, but include officers and men so far found, and not just officers.

Cheers

Mate,

Yes I had him as Maj but that maybe an Ottoman rank, these were always one level above the German rank.

This confuse me at times having two ranks for these men.

Here are some names I have for these men with these boats;

Fricks Freiherr (Baron) von Capt Naval Türk Torpidobot Filotilla Komutani (Turkish Torpedobot Filotilla Commander) 1914-15
Hammerschmidt Georg Pte Naval Torpedo flotilla (died 9-6-15) grave at Tarabya Istanbul
Hentschel Fritz Pte Naval Torpedo boat "Olga" (died 7-1-15) grave at Tarabya Istanbul
Hepp Wilhelm Pte Naval Turkish Torpedo flotilla (died 9-10-17) grave at Tarabya Istanbul
Hünermörder Paul Pte Naval Turkish Torpedo flotilla (died 13-9-16) grave at Tarabya Istanbul
Jung Lt Naval Karadeniz'de Torpidobotlarda (Torpedo Boats in the Black Sea)
Lorey Hermann Maj Naval Türk Torpidobotlari Filotillasi Komutani (Turkish Torpedo Boats Fleet Commander) 1915-1918
Mellenthin Hans-Joachim von Ltdz & Capt Naval CO Turkish torpedocruiser "Berk" & Turkish Ship "Demirhisar" to UB 43 Pola Flotilla 1916 to UB 49 Pola/Mittelmeer II Flotilla 1917-18 to UB 120 Pola Flotilla 1918 U boat 1915-17 (1887-1971) Pour le Mérite 57 ships sunk (154, 662 tons) later WWII
Pfeiffer Adolf Maj Naval Türk Torpidobotlari Filotilla komutani (Turkish Torpedo Boots Filotilla commander) 1914-1917

He was given the Ottoman rank of Bibasi and posted to the Constantinople TB flotilla in January 1918. Then late in 1918 posted to Sevastopol

I can see that four of the Imperial German naval officers serving with the Ottoman Navy lost their lives, most probably killed in action as listed above. I know the exploits of Hans-Joachim Mellenthin pretty well. I just wish there were exploits that I should know of the other German naval officers listed above available in print.

As far as I know on August 8th and 10th 1915 at Anafarta (Suvla) and Seddülbahir battles Leutnant zur See der Reserve Oskar Hildebrandt, Matrose Matthias Dank, Matrose Fritz Klaus, Ober Matrose Ernst Buchmüller lost their lives. They were buried on a hill over Dardanel called Kilia Tepe ( or Poyraztepe, Kilya Tepe) A cemetary with a monument was made for their honour. This monument and many other turkish monuments was ruined by the British during armistrace. Their rest was taken with a military ceremony to the garden of old German Embassy (today sommer residance of german ambassador) in İstanbul in 1930s

Mates,

Yes all with the MG detachments under Boltz

Hildebrant or Hildebrandt Oskar Ltdz Naval Naval MG Sects Marine-Landungsabteilung at Gallipoli 1915- KIA 8-8-15 at Kocaçimen Tepe
Buchmüller Ernst Pte Naval Naval MG Sects Marine-Landungsabteilung at Gallipoli 1915- possibly WIA 8-8-15 DoW 10-8-15
Klaus Fritz Pte Naval possibly? Naval MG Sects Marine-Landungsabteilung at Gallipoli 1915- KIA 8-8-15 near Kurtdere
Dank Matthias Pte Naval possibly? Naval MG Sects Marine-Landungsabteilung at Gallipoli 1915- KIA 8-8-15 at Ismailoglu Tepe

A Large number of these Naval MG soldiers became casualties in the fighting at Gallipoli.

I don't have much on the Torpedo Sqn's and there work during the war. I notice that there at lest two, one in the Dardenells and the other in the Black Sea.

The Black Sea Sqn or 's looks like your area mate, and with the Russian attacks and guarding the coal shippments ment they were in action all the time.

Looks a nice place to check out.

Nothing in books and websites mentioned German participation in the fighting at Gallipoli. I wonder why? Little is known about the German Naval MG soldiers exploits at Gallipoli but they contributed pretty much in the victory of Gallipoli over the British armed forces during WWI.
