Seems to be a little confusion about the name, 88th Rifle Brigade, 88th Special Independent Guerrilla Brigade, 88th Brigade, Soviet Far East 88th Brigade and so on.

Here is at least some more reading mentioning it at least:

Hope it helps.

Cheers

In September 1940, Soviet Far Eastern Communist Party leader Wang Xin-Lim (王新林)called anti-Japanese communist partisans operating in Manchuria into Primorski Krai. One unknown fact is that Kim Il-Sung (김일성) was arrested by the Soviets, on crossing the Amur river. But he was soon released by intervention of Zhu Bao-Zhung (周保中), the leader of anti-Japanese Chinese communist forces. That's the beginning of Kim Il-Sung's career in the 88th brigade. He started from nothing and ended as a founder of the Communist Kingdom.

Kim Jong-Il was the only foreign head of state who was awarded the Great Patriotic War veteran's medal from Vladimir Putin on Victory Day 2005. Why? Because his father Kim Il-Sung was technically a veteran of the Great Patriotic War.

With Kim Jong-Il, 27 former Chinese veterans of the 88th brigade were awarded the Great Patriotic War veteran's medal from Vladimir Putin on the same day.

88 Brigade was not "special" and separate
Formed in July 1942
Based in the village Vyatskoe
Originally had four battalions - one Korean and three Chinese

Rifle brigades of that period were routinely called "separate" in official documents:
