Re: Cossack Volunteers
Hi Semenov,
I agree with you. In most of the cases I can see a diffrence between a cossack and a nordkaukasien, but I don´t know how. Is there some basic diffrence(s) in their dress?
with best regards
Arto

Re: Cossack Volunteers
Hello Gentlemen!
There's an interesting description concerning the end of the Cossacks in Dr. Rudolf Gschöpf's "Mein Weg mit der 45. Inf.-Div." (2nd ed. 2002), a description of what probably must have been the last actual Cavalry charge of the war, apparently with drawn swords!?
Major Franz-Wilhelm Mach, who led the charge, recieved the RK on 30.04.1945 while commanding I./Kuban-Kos.Reit.Rgt. 4.
Major Mach was executed on 26.02.1946 by the Soviets.
Regards,
Krollspell

"In der Nacht zum 23. März 1945 unternahm die 1. Abteilung des 4. Kuban-Kosaken-Regiments unter Führung von Major Mach noch eine Attacke mit blanker Waffe gegen bulgarische Artillerie und brachte 450 Gefangene ein."
