As you point out he was Kripoleiter Hamm.

BBL 35/41 says he was posted to KripoLS Munich from Hamm.
This possibly did not happen because BBL 9/42 (21/42 and 30/42)
all say he was posted from Hamm to Magdeburg as Kripoleiter.

In 1944 he was promoted RuKR and in 1945 KD, both whilst
stationed at Magdeburg.

He was arrested by US 30 CIC in Magdeburg on 19 Apr 1945.

I am new to this forum. What is the source to this information and what does BBL mean?

BBL = Befehlsblatt des Chefs der Sicherheitspolizei und des SD, a weekly publication.
You can find the microfilm roll at Bundesarchiv Berlin-Lichterfelde of all these newsletters. There is no index to the names.

The US arrest came from a file at UK National Archives.

Thank you Steve! Could you also give me the exact signature of the source in the National Archives in the UK?

I am doing a PhD project the criminal police in Magdeburg and the persecution of Sinti and Roma. In the Landesarchiv Sachsen-Anhalt in Magdeburg there is a list of all criminal police officers with notes on their arrestments according to the automatic arrest order of the Allies (LASA, K14, Nr. 299, sheets 59-61). He was incarcereated in Amercina internment camps and probably went through the "Rheinwiesenlager" just like his deputy director Kurt Moritz (https://catalog.archives.gov/id/139375335). I was traying to find out more about his internment during my research at the US National Archives (NARA, College Park). There are Investigative Records Repository (IRR) files on him, which are still classified and I am waiting for the declassification according to the FOIA. The Zentrale Stelle der Landesjustizverwlatung in Ludwigsburg was investigation in 1966 whether he could be made responsible for crimes druing the NS-period but they couldn't find any information. According to their records he died an 26.03.1947 in the age of 59 years (BArch, B 162/26945, sheet 55).

Best,

Verena

Frau Meier
Have you made enquiries of the BStU Berlin? I know from my visits that they have a program to distribute some of the former Stasi files to local archives where the file contents have a major local content. They still retain many files within the archive. Big problem at BStU: no finding aid for researchers. You tell them your interest, they tell you if they have anything. I once turned up to find 30 Leitz files waiting.

I would appreciate if you can let me have an archival Signatur for any NS documentation using the term "Sinti" and "Roma" rather than "Zigeuner".
