What kind of uniform is this "Asian" wearing????

Post by Karstenh83 » 28 Oct 2006 14:36

Hello members,

what kind of uniform is the right person wearing?? As I can see, are those guys members of the 5. East Asian Occupation Brigade. But what does the effect on the left sleeve of the right person means?? Is he may be a member of the Chinese Company or Police?? But those were photographed in Tientsin and the Chinese Company or Police were stationary in "Kiautschou". But the effect looks identical with the effects of the Chinese Police.
Which unit has these effects on their left sleeves??

I hope you can help me.

All the best

Karsten

P.S.: Unfortunately is this interesting picture damaged.

Hi Karsten,

Thank you for posting this interesting photo. I believe it was on ebay recently?

I think you're right on most points. Yes, they do look like members of the East Asian Expeditionary Corps or Occupation Brigade... and yes, that arm patch does look like one from the Tsingtao Chinese Police. You're also right in that the Tsingtao Chinese Police operated in Tsingtao whereas the East Asian Occupation Brigade was based at Peking and Tientsin (as here).

I would guess that the soldier is serving as a policeman in some capacity in Tientsin... but it is only a guess....

Do any other readers have any more concrete ideas?

Cheers
Chris

The Chinese characters on the sleeve patch under the 96 are the Chinese for 96.
