Re: Mock up
The pictures you have were used to train infantrymen how to fight tanks with hand-held weapons such as tear gas, mud (blinding the vision ports) and even bayonets (stuck in the turret ring, so the turret could not turn).FRANCY RITTER wrote:Hello friends !!

I have a photo somewhere in my files of a much cruder copy of the T-34, and according to the caption for the photo, the wooden tank was to confuse air photos as to the strength of the troops in the area. I cannot say if that was the true reason.
I have another photo, seemingly from the same area, where they practiced using "Golaith" to destroy a T-34. In that case the tank was real, but I am sure it was for training purposes, probably they were making a training film to demonstrate that method of destroying a tank.
Hope this is of help.

Rommel used 'em in the Afrika Campaign to fool the enemys, Nice mock tanks!
The first is a dynamic mock-up (it actually wasn't a replica of any particular Panzer, just resembled to a generic armored vehicle) mounted on a Kubelwagen, while the second is a static Pz. III clone.
Since I'm partucularly interested in the suject of dummy tanks, I have quite an archive of pics... have a look at these past posts:

Hi,
Nice thread. Here's a series of mock tanks made so that they could be towed on snow. I have been told that they were used for target practice
The first photo shows troops pushing and pulling the mock tanks to where they would be hooked up to a cable.
