Recommended reading on the foreign vol. & collaboration

Hello,

I am a brandnew member and have a question:
I would think, you guys have several specialists for the different Waffen-SS divisions.
My late father (he passed away in 1972) served in the 19th Waffen-SS division, in the 19th Pionier-Batallion, that is at least what I learned from my parents. I moved to the US fron Germany in 2004, finding tons of more informations here than in Germany itself.
I would like to talk/chat with somebody that knows about this unit, because I have doubts if the dates are accurate that I have, maybe they are totally wrong and I am not myself; in short, I need some help!

one book is outstanding by its pictorial content , that's Latviesu Legionari, or Latvian Legionnaires. Deals mainly (but not only) about Latvian who served in the 15 and 19 th Waffen-grenadier division of the Waffen SS. Also treats about post-war fates (captivity and anti-soviet partisans groups). Really great book, don't miss it!

There is a new book about Azerbaijan Legion in 1941-1945 "Under its banner" or "Under own banner " - 2011.

The book is in russian, and unfortunately no translation into other languages yet

I hope I'm not found to be too presumptuous, but I'd like to recommend Summer of '42: A Study of German-Armenian Relations During the Second World War by Levon Thomassian. I'm the author of the book, which was published through Schiffer in June 2012.

My book represents the culmination of 11 years of research. This is not a military account of Armenian volunteer units. Rather, it's a study of how collaboration came about by examining political, social, and psychological motives as well as how these relations transformed throughout the war years.

Summer of '42 consists primarily of archival research (NARA, Bundesarchiv Berlin, Bundesarchiv-Militaerarchiv, Politisches Archiv Des Auswaertigen Amts, University of Wisconsin - Digital Collections Center, and Harvard University - Slavic Division Widener Library), but incorporates a large body of secondary research and eyewitness interviews. I've obtained some archival photos and the appendix displays the largest collection of Armenian volunteer militaria ever gathered in one book. If you're interested in the history of the Armenians who served the Third Reich, or by extension, in the shared experience of the the eastern anti-stalinst movements in general, you must check this book out.

Recommended reading "Regiment Norge" Historien om en frontkjemperenhet ( The Story of a Nordic SS-Unit) by Harry A.Ellingsen,
published by Pax Forlag 2011,Printed in Sweden by Scandbook AB, Falun,ISBN 978-82-530-3449-2, total 322 pages with maps and many god photos both in black/white and collour. Regiment " Norge" was part of III.SS-Panzerkorps under general Felix Steiner and part of Div.Nordland. More than 1.000 Norwegians fought in this Waffen SS-unit (SS-Panzer Grenadier-Regiment 23 Norge) on the Balkans and in Russia up to and included Berlin May 1945.Losses were nearly 40%, prior to Russia, but when the regiment finally went east (1 December 1943) almost 700 Norwegians were still in its ranks and the book is rather special because it is based on a study conducted after the war of their background and motives, also it tells the story of what happened to these men who were all convicted in Norway after the war.Quite a few had been trained as officers at the Junkerschule Tølz and many of the officers as well as the rank and file had a background from The Norwegian Legion (Den Norske Legion), some had even fought the Germans in april-june 1940 and some had been i Finland during The Winter War in 1939/40.This is their story as well as the reason why.

A good account of Chinese collaboration with Japan during the Second-Sino Japanese War is China and Japan at War, 1937-1945: The Politics of Collaboration, by John Hunter Boyle. It was written back in the early 1970s so the author was able to interview many of the people involved.

It talks about the creation of the Provisional Government of the Republic of China in the north under Wang Kemin, the Reformed Government in central China, under Liang Hongzhi, and briefly touches upon Mengjiang, the Inner Mongolian puppet state. It then covers Wang Jingwei's defection from the Nationalists to the Japanese, the difficulties he had in dealing with the Japanese government and military establishment, and, finally, the history of his Reorganized National Government of China.

My name is Stephen, I am a student at the Moscow historical-archival Institute. I study the subject of Eastern (Russian) volunteers of the Wehrmacht in France during the Second World war 1944-1945. I'm looking for any documents and books on the subject. I know that in the American and French press was a bit written about the Russian soldiers in France. These people were mostly captured red army soldiers who were recruited into the German army. In France, in Normandy and Brittany was 42 Eastern battalion and one reserve regiment. These people wore the chevrons of the POA (russian liberation army) .
Also I studied the history of Russian soldiers in the French resistance. I communicate with one of the last veterans in Russia and his work with archival documents. I need any information
You anything know about these people ? you know people who can help me in this topic? Maybe you where realties seen mention of them? I'm the only Russian historian who takes care of them. help me.

I've read this book and there are many errors, especially concerning the Balkans units - Bosnian and Albanian.
