German troop dispositions in May of 1942

#1

Post by CrazyChestyPuller » 29 Nov 2002, 00:17

Good day. I'm extremely interested in the numbers involved in the Second World War. If anyone has answers to any of the following inquiries I'd be obliged.

(Please keep in mind the May, perhaps June 1942 timeline)

How many troops did the Germans have stationed in:
France and the Low Countries
the Balkans
Scandinavia
Italy
North Africa
Reserve or in Germany
in each of the Eastern Army Groups
any additional garrison units

If anyone has air/panzer/artillery data dealing with the same regions and time frame, that would be great.

Thanks

Hello!
Do you need number of men or number of divisions?

Either would be great. If divisional would prefer breakdown (ie panzer, infantry, mountain, etc) but will settle for anything. Thanks

Another number freak, eh?

I was afraid I was alone! Do you like those little schematics that show tactics as well (all those little arrows and unit icons)?

OK I will post a OoB for the period you want when I am home from work.

The latest I have at the moment online on my site is 16.Januar 1942

Click here for OKH Order of Battle 16.Jan.1942

Let me know if this (for you Mai 1942) would be helpfull.

Greetings to both brother Crazy Chesty Puller and the community as a whole. I do not know if this suggestion will be of any relevant assistance to you, but I would like to recommend the following work of literature which covers the time period in question. The work is entitled KHARKOV 1942: Anatomy of a Military Disaster. The author is David Glantz and the publisher is Sarpedon Publishers of Rockville Center, New York. The publishing year is 1998. This exhaustive work covers the individual orders of battle for both the Wehrmacht and the Red Army as each side prepared for their respective Ukrainian offensive operations in May of 1942. I believe you will find this laborious read to be worth your while. It's just some food for thought. In anycase, I bid you a wonderful day in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Best Regards,
Uncle Bob :)
