turret/cupola on L13 Arques

Post by Luchtkastelen 40-45 » 08 Feb 2007 15:26

Etienne,

The concrete ring on the Arques L13 looks very clean. That would suggest the steel cupola was never put in place? Compare to the now dismantled L13 at vitry-en-Artois (foto below).
In Holland all L13 were without the cupole in place. Only for Volkel AB I found drawings indicating a roue dentée, but not the cupola. The question is: were they removed at the end of the war or never placed at all?
So it is good te see L13s in other places without the cupola. That does not answer te question, but makes it a bit more universal.

Regards, René

L13 Vitry-en-Artois

Post by Luchtkastelen 40-45 » 08 Feb 2007 15:32

Foto of L13 at Vitry-en-Artois in october 2006 with cupola dismantled. This one is in a field south west of the aerodrome. Where is the other one? In the military area on the north east?

L13 / L15

Post by Luchtkastelen 40-45 » 10 Feb 2007 22:08

Thanks guys for sharing these foto's. I found another foto of a L15 in Maldeghem in the book "Vleugels boven Meetjesland" (wings over Meetjesland) bij Cynrik De Decker.

But there is still something that puzzles me. All known examples of these L15 bunkers are (almost) the same. But they are different from the type that is officially qualified as a L15; see also sketches in an earlier message. The official L15 has no large entrance on the back and a field of fire of 90°, whereas "our" examples have a large entrance on the back and 180° field of fire. I only found an "official" L15 in Vlissingen-Souburg. What happened? A modification of the VF-Regelbau?

Hello René

I don't think that the bunkers , beside the one at Souburg,
are L /15 , but I think they belong in the same range .
The back entrance of the bunker makes it easeyer to
relocate the gun when this was needed .
In the V.F. L / serie there are still a few numbers and drawings
missing in the serie and maybe over the L /17 etc etc .
It's not a local design because we see the bunkers in Holand ,
Belgiam and France different "Luftgau" .
The L/16 for 8.8cm Flak is found in Cherbourg -Maupertus and
Caen-Carpiquet .
