Re: Noble's Casualty List
A head-scratcher for several of our better-informed members!
Another scion of the House of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, Rittmeister der Res. Gustav-Albrecht 5. Fürst zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg (b. 28 Feb 1901) served as Ic 23. Panzer-Division. Awarded Deutsches Kreuz in Silber 18 August, 1944. Missing since June 1944, officially declared dead 29 November, 1969.
His German Wikipedia page reports him "seit dem 24. Juni 1944 bei Orscha in Russland vermisst."
QUERY: what was he doing in/near Orsha - well within HGr Mitte's sector - when 23. Panzer-Division was serving under 8. Armee/HGr Südukraine in northern Roumania at the time? Secondment? Fact-finding mission? Visiting relatives/friends?

Re: Noble's Casualty List
One is missing... Hieronymus Clary-Aldringen (born 1917) fell as a victim of air attack by ukrainian villages of Nestierowka-Sokolowka (http://www.gosur.com/en/ukraine-map/?gc ... tAodUzYAsA#) as first lietunant and tank commander in Panzergruppe 1 (Kleist) on 28.7.1941. He was son of Alphons Clary-Aldringen. Memorial cross of Hieronymus was erected by family on the rock near village of Hinterdittersbach in Czech Republic, where the family had properties (the village itself was grounded after the war, http://www.zanikleobce.cz/index.php?obec=1040). The cross was thrown down the hill by idiots, but, 6 years ago it was recovered and reerected.
