Re: Mixed - Request for Identification
I think 1 it's Lieutenant General Raymond Albert Wheeler
http://www.generals.dk/general/Wheeler/ ... t/USA.html
According to wikipedia:
http://www.generals.dk/general/Wheeler/ ... t/USA.html
According to wikipedia:
In Autumn 1943, he was appointed to the South East Asia Command (SEAC) of the South-East Asian Theatre of World War II on the staff of Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten, where he served as principal administrative officer and from February 1944, as Deputy Supreme Allied Commander, replacing General Vinegar Joe Stilwell

Re: Mixed - Request for Identification

I think the 2nd from left is Wladyslaw Anders.

Kinda blurry front view. I think Anders is the man on far right.
Can anyone help identify these men?

Re: Mixed - Request for Identification
Thank you Duchamp you have been most helpful.
I found another picture of the still unidentified man.

Could it be Kazimierz Sosnkowski? He was leader of the Polish army for the government in exile. When the Warsaw Uprising started he was in Italy at the time. It would also make sense why he and neither Anders or FM Alexander present the awards to the soldiers.

Sosnkowski is the one in the middle from the wiki pictures.
Though the men being decorated is wearing the emblem of the 3rd Carpathian Infantry Division, I am a bit surprised that the Commander of the division would miss such a ceremony with the Corps Commander, Army Commander, Army Group Commander and presumably Commander in Chief of the Army (Polish).

Hi ttvon,
#2 can't be Brigadier Ronald Montague-Jones as the officer is wearing a general's visor cap
and not a brigadier's visor cap

Re: Mixed - Request for Identification
Hi,
Who are these high officers?
They are taken in aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay in 2 9 1945.
I am not sure which countries they are from. Maybe they are from Australia or Britain or other countries.
I only know that the one general is Thomas Blamey(Australia).
Thank you!

Rear Admiral G.D. Moore was Flag Officer in Charge, Sidney
Lieutenant-Colonel D.H. Dwyer was Military Assistant to T. Blamey
Captain J. Balfour, I don't know, properly ADC to Blamey

Re:
The french general is Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque (commander of the French 2nd Armored Div in August 1944 during the liberation of Paris). He died in 1947 in a crash; was later posthumously elevated to the dignity of Marshal of France in 1952.Steen Ammentorp wrote:On the famous picture we have:
Left to right:
General Sir Thomas Blamey, Australia
Colonel Lawrence Moore Cosgrave, Canada
General Jacques LeClerc, France
Admiral Conrad E.L. Helfrich, The Netherlands
Air Vice Marshall Leonard M. Isitt, New Zealand.
Lieutenant General Richard K. Sutherland, US Army
A google image search on: macarthur and surrender will give you other pictures from this occasion as well as this one in a larger version.
Kind Regards

#1 Positively - Johan Everhard Meijer Ranneft, Dutch Naval Attaché
#2 Looks like, but unsure - Edward Michael Connolley Abel-Smidt, British Naval Attaché
#3 Most likely - Felipe Cadenas, Cuban Naval Attaché
