Volkhov - date needed

#1

Post by Andreas » 26 May 2007, 14:08

Based on what can be made out on this map regarding the frontline, would it be possible to roughly date the map? Centre-right is Novo-Kirishi and below Kirishi.

The map is from my grandfather's collection. He was there with Beobachtungsabteilung 26.

Thanks a lot!

All the best

According to the webpage of the historical society of Kirishi /http://www.kirishi.ru/?city_history/, the area was an arena of bitter, postional-like warfare, from Sep 41 to Nov 43.

You can check these russian links too:

Hi Kamen

Thanks a lot for this - great links. I absolutely have to learn Russian! The Kirishi bridgehead battles are well known in German historiography, and the partially destroyed Volkhov bridge is a symbol of the bitter fighting that occurred there. I was hoping that somebody who is an expert on the frontline in the sector might have been able to tell me which period this map represents.
