German marches played in Chile today

#1

Post by Ivan Ž. » 11 Jun 2007, 21:40

Chilean army marching in the traditional Prussian style to a German traditional march called "Marsch des Hessischen Kreisregiments und des Regiments Landgraf"

For those interested, here's a nice article about the Chile-Prussia connection: http://www.photius.com/countries/chile/ ... a~492.html

Cheers,
Ivan

That puts the parades of the modern german "bundeswehr" to shame. It's nice to know some corners of the earth still have held on to a little culture and history.

Ah, thanks for the link, FDDT !

That is "Recuerdo de 30 años" with the melody of one of my favourite songs in trio: "Schier dreißig Jahre bist du alt". Excellent.

Cheers,
Ivan

I'm glad you liked the clip!
In that case, here is the full 2 and half hour parade in order from start to finish. It was the last one with Augusto Pinochet as head of the Chilean military before he was arrested in March 1998; this was recorded on the National Day 19 September 1997. I was attempting to fill out the marches myself, but if Ivan or anyone else is interested, they can complete my start, or correct it if necesary. It's a good parade; pure Prussian school.

Hopefully this question is not too far off topic from "Axis history", but I was wondering if anybody could tell me whether any of the below 4 marches played on September 19th, 1995 in the annual Military Day Parade in Chile are German marches, if so, i'd like to know their titles and composer. It's possible none of these are even German marches, but I thought I would ask just to be sure.

starting at 0:46 after the lockmarsch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0uy6bdOFns

0:00 until 3:00 when Schier dreißig Jahre bist du alt starts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbsiY7_I8oo

starting at 2:07 after Preußens Gloria
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v717w_5giNY

0:00 until 4:53 when the Panzerlied starts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YviwvO_1ZRY

Thanks for any help!

I recognize the march that is being played in the last clip prior to the Panzerlied. It is an Austro-Hungarian march, titled Blaue Brigade Marsch; composer Johann Nepomuk Kral (1839-1896). Its composition date is unknown. It had some connection as a regimental march to the 70th Austro-Hungarian Infantry Regiment and appears on Folge 5 of the Historische Regiments Maersche der K.u.K. Armee, performed by Militaermusik Salzburg. The CD was issued by Koch International in 1997. Kral is perhaps better rembered as the composer of "Hoch Habsburg" and "Brucker Lager Marsch", both often recorded. In the Chilean parade clip, the march is already being played at the beginning and continues to be repeated until the band starts in with the Panzerlied.

I tried and failed to find any music CDs or vinyl records of the Chilean Military band on ebay. Does anyone know if such recordings are available?
