The official AHF Third Reich music quiz thread
We've had several different quizes running here in the forum for a while with great success so I'm starting one here in this new section too.
The rules are very simple:
The first one to post the correct answer to a question, posts a new question (must be on Third Reich music) and so on.

My Question:
The "Preußenmarsch" by Joseph Golde combines the melodies from which songs?
Re: Question 3
"Heil dir im Siegerkranz" & "Preußens Vaterland".
Note: please wait for the poster of the question to confirm the answer is correct before posting a new question.

Question 4
Let's make this a bit spicy: US Marine Band recorded in 1891 a German march called "Farewell to Dresden" (mp3). This march is performed in Germany today as well, but it is known by a completely different title, since 1908. It is incorrectly credited to a composer who was only 9 years old when the US Marine Band recorded it. What is the (today known) title of this march and who is its (false) composer?

Re: Question 4
Small help: for example, it was recorded by Carl Woitschach for Ultraphon in 1930.

Re: Question 4
"Under dem Grillenbanner" / Wilhelm Lindemann. Was this march ever known as "Farewell to Dresden" outside of that one recording you found on Columbia?
Re: Question 4
"Unter dem Grillenbanner", yes, that's correct.
Your turn, Dave!

Question 5
He he he...ok. You see, it is my other, American side coming out. Always trying to "Americanize" things! Unterstand?Ivan Ž. wrote:"Unter dem Grillenbanner", yes, that's correct.
Here is one that I found interesting when I heard about it. The following songs (..and a few other, I believe...) all use a melody which pre-dates them and is not German in origin:
1. "Blau Äuglein"
2. "Heil Deutschland"
3. "Kam'rad, reich' mir die Hände (Hakenkreuz am Stahlhelm)"
What was the original tune called and who is it's composer?
Re: Question 5
Blue Bell, composed by Theodore F. Morse in 1904.

Question 6
Who is this conductor? In 1940 he recorded a march named after a variant of this salute...

Re: Question 6
Would it be Friedrich Ahlers, at that time conductor of the well-known I. Musikkorps des Infanterie-Regiments Großdeutschland?
He and his band recorded a march called "Treueschwur", hence my guess.
