Hint: song has the "vallerie-vallera" in its refrain (but then again which one doesn't? )

Hello Ivan

I think the composer is Friedrich W.Möller, author of 'Der fröhliche Wanderer' ....

I am practically giving away the answer with this hint: their song is about a soldier, waiting for his vacation...

All right, with this information I can be pretty sure you are talking about:

Song: 'Wenn ich Urlaub hab'
Composer: Gerhard Winkler (b. 1906 - d. 1977)
Writer: Ralph Maria Siegel (b. 1911 - d. 1972)

On the other hand, I couldn't find pictures of Siegel to compare with yours. And, I always wondered about his name. Perhaps the family was Catholic and it was an honor to Mary?

Yes, Dave, that's the correct answer. Finally!

The other Winkler's composition I mentioned (recorded by Lale) is "...und wieder geht ein schöner Tag zu Ende"; very nice tune.

Your turn!

Question 19

#67

Post by behemoth » 17 Aug 2007, 06:28

Sorry for not posting the question sooner!

This march was accorded such a special status that, during the war, Joseph Goebbles ordered that it was being "profaned" by frequent use and thus was not to be overplayed. What is the march and who was it's composer? Of course, this might be an easy one for a certain member of the board who shall remain nameless.... ;) This, in itself, is a bit of a hint!

It should be "Wir fahren gegen Engelland" (Niel/Löns), right? I must admit I didn't know about that order of Goebbels.

Next question - another ID.

Who is this, quite famous, conductor? He led a dance band.

Hint: he recorded an excellent version (my favourite) of one Paul Lincke's famous Berlin song, with Lotte Werkmeister (& chorus).

Another hint: conductor's last name is pronounced similar to this person's middle name :)

Now it's really easy...

Still no answer? Strange... OK, yet another hint: he often recorded with singer Erwin Hartung.
