Marine Peilstelle Ter Linden Brugge

Hello

Who has any clue on this bunker on the site was a Marine Peilstelle and was
bombed just like other special Luftwaffe site along the Atlantikwall days before D-Day .

Hi Jos,

Very few information exist about this site but there is a nice article in After The Battle Nr120 about this site with a small plan with the position of the other (big) bunkers and the antennas. But nothing in detail about this circular MG-nest except there were 33 of them around the site.

Hi,

Untill now only one book has been written about the airraid on 'Ter Linden'. It has been been written by Dr. C.H. Vlaeminck in 1983 as 'Operatie Ramrod 934. The book is very interesting but maybe somewhat outdated. The article Pierrot(hi !) is referring to is also very interesting.(After the Battle but also in Dutch 40-45 Toen en Nu).

The book shows many plans, pictures and statistics. It is highly recommended, but very rare to find.

Hi Jos and Pierrot,

I found this book very usefull and I would pay €50 for it because it is one of the very few sources you can find regarding Ter linden.

What I would like to know is which type of bunkers there were build there. Some of them were quite large. The commander of 'Ter Linden' didn't have permission to build those bunkers. Nevertheless it saved quite a lot of soldiers and personel during the 2 bombing raids after he was fired for that.

A large maquete was build during the seventies(or eighties) simulating the Ter Linden site. I wonder if it still exists somewhere.

For the bunkers at Ter Linden , as you see on the plan no 6 is a 100% Standige bunker
also I think no 5 was also a Standige bunker . In the book Normandie 6 Juni 1944 from
Hans Sakkers you can see a copy of a report from the attack on Ter Linden on 28-05-1944
"Neuer bunker stark angeschlagen" . Do you know if there are any pictures of the Adcock bettungen in Ter Linden ?

If the site (608/622) at the Haan is used by a subordinate staff, perhaps
this could also be a 608. Probably built around the same period.

Reason for asking if the doctor is stiff alive is that he and later (After the Battle) have
to get an impression of the shap of the bunker somehwere... So are there more pictures
or do local archives perhaps include demolition plans...

Perhaps worthwhile for our belgian friends to investigate

Dr. Vlaeminck died at the end of the 80ies as far as I'm aware.

Did some Googleling and found that Erik E. in 2003 also was seaching for
this name . Could it be Marine Peil & Horch Stelle ????
On 01-06-1943 there were 276 personel at the site at Ter Linden .

This is a quotation of the original text of Dr. C. Vlaemynck:

'Blijkbaar vonden de Duitsers het op Ter Linden erg naar hun zin want op 19 januari 1942 werd de 'Marinepeilstelle Brügge' tevens het hoofdkwartier van de 'Marinepeilabteilung Flandern'. Dit betekende dat diverse Westvlaamse kuststations, al dan niet voorzien van radarposten, ondergeschikt werden aan de basis te Sint-Michiels. De aldaar reeds gevestigde 'Marinepeilstelle Brügge' bleef als afzonderlijke eenheid voortbestaan maar werd voortaan 'Marinepeilhauptstelle Brügge' genoemd. Deze benaming werd meestal afgekort tot 'MPHS Brügge'.'

Maybe this is also an indication that coastal radar strongpoints as the one of 'De Haan' Stp Graf Spee were in direct contact with the MPHS.
