Is there any information about the casualties on UJ 1708 (sunk in artillery battle with soviet submarine in 1941)?

hallo teg,

UJ 1708 , former whale catcher of the Wilhelm Loh type. Bau Nr 590 1075ton, 56,50m long 8,04 beam.
Sunk on 3/12/41 at 14h30~Rolvsoy north off Hammerfest 70°53,9 north/23°46 east in artillery duel with soviet U-boat K-3 , exploded by torpedo hit all crew dead , between 48 and 56.

How many people were killed and wounded on Uj 1403 in the same battle (it was hit by 4 soviet shells)?

hi Teg,

It can't be UJ1403 , because UJ 1403 was part of the 14 Vorposten Flottille , based on the Atlantic coast off France. Of UJ 1703 I can not find anything , will dig some further.

"Am 3.12. greift K-3 (Kpt. 3.Rg. Malofeyev, mit dem Befehlshaber der 1. U-Boot-Division, Kpt. 2.Rg. Gadzhiev, an Bord) vor Rolvsöy einen Konvoi mit dem Dampfer Altkirch an. Die U-Jäger UJ 1403, UJ 1416 und UJ 1708 erwidern den Angriff mit Wasserbomben. Kpt. Gadzhiev läßt wegen der entstandenen Schäden auftauchen und erzielt im Artilleriegefecht einen Volltreffer auf UJ 1708/ Faröer (470 BRT), der sinkt. Die beiden anderen, nur mit 2-cm-Flak bewaffneten U-Jäger müssen vor dem überlegenen U-Boot (2–10 cm, 2–4,5 cm) ablaufen, das dadurch entkommt."
14 UJ-Flotilla was stationed in Norway before going to France.

hallo all,

UJ 1403 , former fish steamer Mecklenburg , same kind of ship as UJ1708 Wilhelm Loh type , No information is given of casualties on 3/12/41.
sunk 24/10/43 03h15 west of Belle Isle 47°22north/05°08 west after collision with French fish steamer Anne Alice.
