Did the ammunition strips for the Hotchkiss M22/25's in Spanish service load into the left or right of the reciever?
I believe it was the left but i would like confirmation.
Thanks in advance.

From all the photographs and films I've seen have the ammunition strips being fed from the left side.

Great photo. It shows the feed tray is reversed with the cartridges facing downwards this is how the earlier Hotchkiss Portative or Mark 1's fed.

I have also seen the Greek picture and another Greek one showing feeding from the right.
I have seen a picture of a Turkish model feeding from the left and have been told there is a picture of Spanish Morroccans using the left hand side to feed.

Larger calibre Hotchkiss were marketed with either left or right hand feed - the end users choice. I am thinking that this may also be the case with the M22/25's

Just a word of caution -- from my own unpleasant experiences in photo interpretation of firearms -- negatives can be reversed, particularly for "artistic" or "layout" reasons. This is the reason the outlaw "Billy the Kid" was believed to have been left-handed. The printed photo got reversed and was only "caught" when someone noticed that the loading gate on the Winchester lever action rifle he was holding was on the "wrong" side!

Were they modified to use a curved Bren type magazine feeding from the top?

1. Was the Hotchkiss M1925 just an export version of the Hotchkiss M1922 and essentially identical to the M1924?
2. Did the Spanish army use top magazine loading, or side strip loading Hotchkiss M1925s? Or did they use a mix?

3. The Hotchkiss M1924 was the turret gun in the Bilbao armoured car. Did this version use a curved top loading magazine, or side strip loading?
4. Did the turret mounted M1924 retain the wooden stock?

Armamento Ejercito Español 1875-1943 Calvò J
BARCELONA 1975 , DEPÓSITO LEGAL B-4515-1975, I.S.B.N. 84-400-8233-9
Mitrailleuse "HOTCHKISS" MODELE 1922
Calibre: 7 mm.

Fusil mitrailleur "HOTCHKISS" TYPE I
Calibre: 7 mm
Longueur totale: 1 650 mm

Fusil mitrailleur "HOTCHKISS" TYPE II
Calibre: 7 mm
Longueur totale: 1 650 mm
Longueur du canon: 500 mm
Poids: 8,8 Kgr
