Karl Koch
Can anybody provide me with the facts regarding the SS career of SS-Staf Karl Koch, please? I have the following conflicting details:
1) 1934 - senior official at KL Lichtenburg (if so, what were his duties)
2) Oct 1934 DAL - Sonderkommando Sachsen (what was this, please)
3) 1934-35 Commandant KL Sachsenburg, succeeding Reiner and replaced by Schmidt? (was this true?)
NB: According to both Paul Berben (Dachau) and Tom Segev (Soldiers of Evil), he went from Sachsenburg to Esterwegen and from there to Lichtenburg, then to Dachau and Columbia-Haus!!! Surely they are mistaken?
4) Dates unknown - Lagerführer at KL Esterwegen (from a source on this website, but surely not?)
5) 13/6/35 - 1/4/36, Commandant KL Columbia-Haus (succeeded Gerlach, replaced by Deubel)
6) 1/4/36 - 8/36, or 12/36 (when closed) - Commandant KL Esterwegen (succeeded Löritz)
7) 10/36 - 7/37 - Commandant KL Sachsenhausen (succeeded Lippert, replaced by Hellwig, or Baranowski)
8) 7/37 - 9/41, or 12/41, Commandant KL Buchenwald (replaced by Pister)
9) 9/41, or 12/41 - 4/42, or 8/42 - Commandant KL Majdanek (replaced by Koegel)
As you can see, very conflicting, so can we have the facts if possible, please?

Thanks Phil, have made similar notes and most of mine tally with yours, but me being me - a few questions:
1) Any ideas what SS-Sonderkommando 3 was? And what was the connection with the Politische Bereitschaften?
2) SS-Sonderkommando "Sachsen" is in October 1934 DAL, but what was it? Anything to do with KL "Sachsenburg?
According to Paul Berben (Dachau):
He was arrested Winter 1941 and almost immediately released on Himmler's orders. He was suspended from Majdanek August 1942 following escape of 86 Soviet POW's. Investigation ordered and he was accused of criminal negigence. Investigation closed. Sent to Berlin and made a liaison officer between SS and post office (could this be to do with his SS-PHA posting?). Buchenwald investigation continued and later Konrad Morgen was ordered to bring charges against him. Arrested 8/43 at Villa Koch, Buchenwald. Charged with theft of 200,000 Reichsmarks and murder of 3 Prisoners who could have testified against him. Found guilty and sentenced to death, but he was only taken to Buchenwald first week of April 1945 and shot 26/4/45. So where was he/what was he doing between trial and him being taken to Buchenwald?
Anyway, your info much appreciated again, Phil. Vielen dank

Koch query
In Norman Frank's "The Jasta Pilots" there is a Karl Koch.
Was this the same as Karl Otto Koch?
How did he receive Air Observer's Badge?
Was he a member of FreiKorps?
Was his wife a member of the SS as well?

Re: Koch query
Page 186 of "the Jasta Pilots" shows all the 'Kochs' and there is no Karl KochPF wrote:In Norman Frank's "The Jasta Pilots" there is a Karl Koch.

Thanks for the Mollo info, Phil. Sure I must have read that some years ago and made notes from it? Can't find it though.
