Anyone know what "kibag" is or stands for? (UPDATE
I cannot find what "zum Kibag 40" stands for. Any help would be appreciated.
Today, (Oct 2) I got some information that this item may have been used on a device called a "kino basisgerat auswertegerat" (analysis-device for basic-device). The description is as follows:
The device was used to measure the distance between an air-target and the visible trace of tracer-ammo on the basis of pairs of photographs (stereo), taken with the Kino-Basisgerät (basic device). The "Kibag" is made of two parts, the stereoscope and a mount for the film. The stereoscope is a double-microscope with 5,5 augment
There is a picture of this device on line, but it is very small. I will continue to search for information and to confirm is this information in correct.
Picture of device: http://www.archive.zeiss.de/nav.FAU?sid ... G=H&NPOS=2
Also, there is a Luftwaffe manual: L.Dv. T 1454 2a that covers the Kinobasisgerat 40. Now I need to find information on this manual.

The item is a 12x60 spotting scope like the one below. 99% of these are marked "BLC Rm-F12x60 fur Em4M R 40". This means they are spotting binoculars for the 4 meter rangefinder model R40. I have seen one that was marked for a radar device, but this one is for use "zum kiberg 40", whatever that is. It could be a radar, a sound device, a rangefinder, a seachlight of some kind. I just don't know and I would like to know.

Update: so far I have found dick (that means nothing). I wrote the Imperial War Museum, and they had no idea. I have written to two museums in Germany, but I think they want to ignore WWII altogether. The Zeiss Historical Society did not know, but they are mainly interested in cameras. I am not giving up and will post the answer here once I find it (if Iive that long).
I do think it is for something with the navy. One reason I think this is the word "zum." I found another 12x60 glass that is marked for the 6 meter rangefinder. I think these were used by the navy. Instead of saying "fur" as on the 4 meter rangefinders, it is also marked "zum." It is a reach, but I will take anything I can get at this point.

There shoudl be a picture of it in the book by Griehl "DAS GROSSE BUCH DER FLAK. DEUTSCHE LUFTVERTEIDIGUNG 1912-1945"
I dont have it in front of me, but perhaps others can look and see if they can find the picture.

No go. I bought the book and can't find any reference in it to a "Kibag 40." This is going to be harder than I thought.
Hello
I wouldnt suggest you to buy this booklet, perhaps someone is having it at hand and can send you the actual page. I dont have it at hand for the moment.

My mistake..i forgot about this tread and looked at it, but it was not that book as you say. I found it or something similar in a small booklet(Waffen Arsenal), i mixed them up. The device mentioned is working like you describe above. But its named "schmalfilmgerät" in this boklet not Kibag. It was manufactured by Siemens. It was using film, not photo. No go. I bought the book and can't find any reference in it to a "Kibag 40.

I don't think that book will help. I have a book in English by the same author with the same front cover and titled "Sound Locators, Fire Control Systems and Searchlights of the German Heavy Flak Units"

I don't know what it's for. That is what I am trying to find out. It just seems odd for the Germans to designate a 12x60 flak glass for use with an item unless that item really existed, but what it is, I have no idea.JodelFlieger wrote:Hi there
is it for calibrating the existing optical sights to the barrel of the gun,ie, boresighting?
