SS-Obersturmführer Heinrich Bergmann

He was head of the Kripo in Estonia during the genocide of Jews there in 1941.
Does anyone know what his post-war fate was? I can't seem to find any info on him anywhere, other than he was a member of the Kripo & Sonderkommando 1a.

Cheers.

That's ok, Mikedc. I assume if there's no info on AHF already, no one's probably even heard of him.

It mentions him in Raul Hilberg's third volume of "Destruction of the European Jews" as a footnote. It was in a communique between an Estonian war criminal, Jaan Viik (who was executed in Estonia in 1961/2) and himself, concerning the murder of Gypsies in Harku.

I assume if he was in Estonia, there's a good chance the Soviets caught up with him and executed him but who knows.....

Hey Ryan,

You're right, we can't have it all.
But at least I also did find his name in the following article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust_ ... et_Estonia

Mike

Thanks for that, Peter. Obviously one of those who escaped justice.

Peter,

Bergmann was Leiter IV with KdS Tallinn, not with KdS Riga.

Hey guys,

Confusing stuff. Peter never wrote KdS Riga, he wrote KdS Reval the whole time.

So tell me when I'm correct.
Head of Abteilung I/II of the KdS in Reval from 29 January 1943. This was Reval??

Substitute Head of Abteilung IV of the KdS in Reval from summer 1942 to Februaruy 1943. This had to be Tallinn??

Substitute Head of Abteilung IV of the KdS in Reval from May 1943 to 26 June 1943. This had to be Tallinn??

Substitute Head of Abteilung IV of the KdS in Reval from 18 March 1944 until retreating from the Russian attacks. This had to be Tallinn??

Head of Abteilung V of the KdS in Reval turn of the year 1941/42 to spring 1942. This was Reval??

Head of Abteilung V of the KdS in Reval from July 1942 to 1944. This was Reval??

Hello Mikedc,

Reval is the German (and also Swedish) name for Tallinn.

You should better say "was":
The previously used official German name Reval (Russian: Ревель) was replaced after Estonia became independent in 1918–1920
