Oberst Jähnisch/ Danzig 1945

Antoher question about an Oberst :D

In one of the Eyewitnesses reports here:
Im Herbst 1944 wurde in Praust ein neuer Flugplatz gebaut, und wir kamen von Danzig-Langfuhr nach dort. Januar 1945 nahm dann der Flüchtlingsstrom aus dem deutschen Osten immer mehr zu. Unter den Vertriebenen befand sich eines Tages auch meine Stieftochter, die aus Elbing kam. Mein dienstlicher Auftrag war, unsern Oberst Jähnisch aus Danzig zu holen

this Oberst is mentioned several times. As I want to locate to which unit the person who wrote the report belonged to my only chance is to locate this Oberst, No branch, no first name known...who might have a hint?

Wonder if it's a mispelling of Jähnichen?

That must have been some airfield maintenance unit. Maybe a Fliegerhorst Kommandantur? I think it's going to be difficult to find it.
There was at least one airborne unit which used both airfields until January 1945 - Flugzeugführerschule A/B 52. They were based at Danzig-Langfuhr with a few satellite airfields, one of them at Kochstedt (which is a place next to Praust, today just a piece of Pruszcz Gdanski, right where the airfield is). But the FFS A/B 52 was evacuated by the end of January.

btw. Former airfield Danzig-Langfuhr - that's exactly where I've been living for last 27 years :)

Hi, Michal :D

OK, the next LW-Mann to trace down

By the way, do you remeber our discussion on Fliegerhorst-Kdt. Rahmel? A friend of mine was in Freiburg this month, it was since June 1944 Oberst Rudolf Back, not Witt!!

Hi,
Of course I do, but we rather discussed who the commander of the Regiment Witt might have been, didn't we? There was a man called Witt who commanded one of the units from Rahmel (the Blindflugschule 5), but he was transferred to other duties as early as 1943 (Radom and Florennes). It seems that we should look for another Witt...

Hello Jan-Hendrik,

there's a promising chap mentioned in

Henry L. deZeng / Douglas G. Stankey
Luftwaffe Officer Career Summaries
http://ww2.dk/Lw%20Offz%20-%20G-K%20-%202013.pdf
JAENISCH, Kurt
17.03.41 Obstlt., appt Kdt Koflug 11/II (to 01.08.41).
01.08.41 Obstlt., appt Kdt Koflug 4/II (to 20.02.43).
01.06.42 promo to Oberst
20.02.43 Oberst, appt Kdt Koflug 4/I
So correct name (at least pronunciation-wise), correct rank and an expert in airfield administration. Unfortunately according to http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... K4-1-R.htm Jaenisch was replaced at Koflug 4/I on 29.05.1944 by a Major Anton-Carl Longin. So the quest for the unit designation isn't finished yet.

Someone out there who can tell us how the career of Jaenisch continued?

Best regards
Torsten

Hello Jan-Hendrik,

I've found this photo of Kurt Jaenisch:

The decoration half-obscured by the woman's face is obviously the observer's badge from WW I. Perhaps one of the experts can identify what else he sports except Iron Cross and wound badge.

Best regards
Torsten
