Generalleutnant Hans Källner

Post by Bernd R » 17 Oct 2007 19:20

Hi all,

surprisingly I was unable to find 100% accurate career data for General Källner.

Two simple questions :
1) can anyone provide his career data ? the years 1939-45 would be the more interesting to me due to question 2)
2) can anyone confirm that Källner received the "Anerkennungsurkunde" on 12.07.1941 as Oberstleutnant, Führer Vorausabteilung 11. Inf.Div ?

The reason to ask for clearing is that the following uncomplete / inaccurate information has been checked and left some points open :

Thomas/Wegmann, "Die Eichenlaubträger 1940-45", Biblio-Verlag, 1997/98, Osnabrück :
01. 09. 1939 Kmdr. AufklAbt 11
28. 08. 1941 Kmdr. SchRgt 73
01. 07. 1942 Kmdr. 19. PzBrig
18. 08. 1943 Fhr. 19. PzDiv
01. 11. 1943 Kmdr. 19. PzDiv
22. 03. 1945 Fhr. XXIV. PzKps
-> should be "19. Pz.Gren.Brigade" [but could be a typo of my research fellow also]

Mike's ABR : http://www.geocities.com/~orion47/WEHRM ... _HANS.html
-> not entirely correct for the posts during the years 1942-43
-> not correct for the DKiG and AU awards : there didn't exist a "Kradsch.Btl 11" ! [19. PD had "19"]

what should be confirmed according to the research in the "awardholders/unit" sticky ; German Cross in Gold :
Källner, Hans, 18.10.1941, Oberstleutnant, Aufkl.Abt. 11
the question raised by Shawn concerning the "Anerkennungsurkunde" :
Kaellner, [first name not listed], 12.07.1941 (083), Oberstleutnant, Fhr. Vorausabteilung [for action 29.06.1941-01.07.1941 bei Riga]

Per Die Generale des Heeres, 1921-1945, Band 6, future Generalleutnant Hans Källner was an Oberstleutnant and Kommandeur Aufkl.Abt. 11 from 26.08.1939-12.08.1941. Does anyone have acces to detailed accounts of the capture of Riga and/or histories of the 11. Inf.Div.? Based on Källner’s command of Aufkl.Abt. 11, I suppose his AU was awarded as Führer Vorausabteilung d. 11. Infanterie-Division. Can anyone confirm? Thanks!
might be of help and interesting also regarding his command of 19. Pz.Gren.Brig, later "Stoßgruppe Källner" (accurate dates ?)
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=123551

So, counting 1 and 1 together it seems very likely he in fact was Fhr. Vorausabteilung 11. ID.
Nevertheless to have a confirmation would make the listing more solid !

Thanks in advance, Bernd

According to 50 Jahre 11.(ostpr.)Infanterie-Division 1934- 1984, p.75, at least in August 1939 a Major Källner was Kdr. of AA 11

Attached is a Beurteilung from Källner's personal file, it shows his time in command of AA 11 and Stoßgruppe Källner.

Excellent, Jeff, thanks ! :D

I take it the only typo in this document is "Schtz.Rgt 75" (should read "73") !
Interesting to notice : "Handschreiben OB. d.H." for Anerkennungsurkunde.
If my interpretation is correct there can be no doubt that he in fact received it as Kdr AA 11, resp. Fhr. Vorausabteilung 11. ID. because this is the only post which comes into question.

Hi!

New question in an old topic.

The various online bios for Källner have him listed with a Panzerkampfabzeichen. His 1944 Beurteilung above has a "Sturmabzeichen". As he was commander of an Aufkl.Abt. of an regular infantry division, I would think this was an Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen, but I'm not 100% on the award criteria of the badges. I believe Aufkl.Abt. 11 was mounted/bicycle, not mechanized.

Is there later documentary or photographic evidence of him with a Panzerkampfabzeichen, perhaps awarded after April 1944 since by then he had been with Panzer formations? Or was it perhaps just assumed that he had a battle badge and he commanded Panzertruppen, so it must have been the Panzerkampfabzeichen?
